Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Our Lenten celebrations always turn out weird. Today is dd's 14th birthday and she's requesting lasagne for dinner (which means we'll be off our allergy-free diet of no-wheat-no-dairy-no-eggs tonight), but apart from the lasagne, we're going to try a seder meal. We've also been traveling so much that our "regular" lenten observances have been mostly derailed, but looking in our books today, a seder meal looks possible. We're following the instructions from Lent and Easter in the Domestic Church. Anyone else? Would love to hear some thoughts and experiences doing this. We're Filipino so this is very "foreign" to us, but exciting! Our first seder meal was years ago when we were still dating, my dh's Jewish landlady invited us to their family's celebration.

Off to make haroset,

I'm delighted to say I'm NOT having any Seder meals this week . Not that there is anything wrong with Seder meals, but my dh is Jewish, and trying to organise both Easter and Passover simultaneously is hard going, as is trying to fit in two family Seders alongside Holy Week and the Easter Triduum. This year, by a quirk of the Jewish calendar (they have a leap month this year), Passover is four weeks after Easter. Having the two separate just makes life so easy. Also, I can eat hot cross buns for Easter ... and bread ... and cake ... and all the things that are normally banned in this house during Passover. And I don't have a house full of matzoh crumbs
