This Saturday, June 3, we'll celebrate the Memorial of St. Charles Lwanga and Companions. The story of their conversion, baptism and death is a must read for teenage boys and an inspiration for everyone. The youngest to die was only 13 yrs. old. Many of the martyrs had only been baptized a short time. One of the martyrs was killed by his own father, who worked for King Mwanga.

In years past we've fixed food from East Africa. This year it looks like our feast will be a little more modest but we'll get out our Kente cloths to decorate the table and use our ebony Madonna and African sculpture for the centerpiece . I have an African Mass on cassette around here somewhere (ST. Anthony, help) to play during dinner.

There are tons of books and websites with African inspired crafts such as Batik if you have time on Friday to do them. I picked up Honey, Honey Lion by Jan Brett when I stopped at the library today for reading this week.

Thanks for the reminder and ideas, Gwen! I'm going through my Time-Life Foods of the World African Cooking book right now looking for some recipe ideas.

I learned how to play Mancala yesterday. It can be addicting. Anyone can play without any special equipment by using an egg carton with marbles, stones, painted macaroni, etc.

St. Charles and companions.....pray for us.
