Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

My son will be in 8th grade this fall and I am trying to decide on a spine to use for Church history. Has anyone seen the following and can you help me make a decision? My son is a great reader but not necessarily a great scholar . He loves to read as long as he finds the content interesting.

The Story of the Church

The Didache series History of the Church

We tried to use The Story of the Church this year and my oldest said it read like a textbook and was boring. Since I couldn't get any narrations out of him we dropped it. I looked at the Didache series to replace the above and the price was high, so I instead got the Seton 8th grade religion book which is Church history. It arrived yesterday and I haven't even got it out of the box yet.

I have the St. Joseph Church History by Father Lovasik. I have not looked at it in a while, but I read it when I converted, and it was very readable. I can't compare it to anything else, but I would think it would make a nice overview so you could supplement with other works.
