Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I would like to make table runners/placemats to match the liturgical colors of each day. I believe that would give us a nice focus each morning.
So how do I do it?
Beautiful fabric is hit or miss at the nearest fabric store and the nearest store is 25 minutes away and honestly I do not get there on a very regular basis, but I will check when in town. Online ordering may be $ because of shipping which will probably be more than $ of the small amount of fabric. I am not even sure what to look for on ebay--is there a section for beauiful small pieces of fabric that will visually inspire Viv?
I can knit and felt. Any ideas for a rectangular piece of lace style knitting in a rectagular shape--dressser scarf might be an old fashioned option--any favorite websites or books for that type of knitting?
A felted rectangle is easy enough but beyond changing colors how can I alter pattern for texture or would you needle felt atop to add dimension?

After reading this rambly post I realize that I need to get to TJMaxx and look for suitable placemats, stop fussing about just the right fabric, add the mats and incorporate it into our Catholic home, THEN plan an interesting knitting project. My last few projects have been boring so I need the "spice" of a lace pattern or a new felting pattern--can you see a blend of greens?

I think table runners are a super idea! You could die your fabric to the color you want, perhaps?

You could make the fabric pieces reversible; purple/green, red/pink, white/blue. Then you'll need fewer sets!

Viv...when you go to TJMaxx, if you find glorious tablecloths or placemats in the "liturgically correct" colors maybe you can piece together a table runner from an inexpensive tablecloth or several placemats?

If not sewing, how about a crocheted or knitted lace to link them together?

Viv,
We did this but with tablecloths and it works out SO WELL! A really, really easy way to celebrate the liturgical year AND give things that festive touch. I just kept an eye out for tablecloths (for a long time) and ultimately picked up inexpensive blue ones, and found fabric in red and green that we made into tablecloths. Made sure ALL were washable. The only color that has proven difficult was a pretty purple that wasn't too expensive. I like the idea of a table runner and placemats, too!
