Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I have a strong devotion to the Sacred Heart! Tomorrow, Friday June 7th is the Feast of the Sacred Heart!

We have made a family consecration in the past and renew on this day, we go to Mass and we celebrate with a red velvet cake! I find that if you have boys of any age---they will remember cake!

The devotion to the Sacred Heart is so richly indulged that it's really a devotion for everyone. Some Saints that are connected with the Sacred Heart are St. John, St. Gertrude the Great and St. Margaret Mary Alacoque.

I hope that helps a bit......

I don't normally go to Mass during the week. (Taking four boys to Church by myself terrifies me.....) However, maybe I will this week. Hubby works and cannot escape that, but at least for my boys it might be good for them, and me!

Hmm cake. THEY love any baked goods.... They are boys after all.....

I completely understand this!!!!!!!! It has been nearly impossible for us to attend daily Mass for so many years.... I am finally beginning a season where this is possible in small doses!

Saturday is the Feast of the Immaculate Heart. Maybe you could go on Saturday morning with your whole family in honor of both the Sacred Heart and the Immaculate Heart?

Or, do you have an adoration chapel available?   For years we have gone to Adoration for only 10 mins...which was about our boys time limit.

Or, lastly, just have a small prayer time at home, maybe with a candle and picture of the Sacred Heart (with cake to follow! ).

Remember, to paraphrase St. Therese, do small things that will be a positive experience for your family with great Love!

I love the St. Therese quote!
They do Adoration on First Fridays, I had forgotten about that. I don't know if they are doing a special Mass for the Feast of the Immaculate Heart..... I will have to find out today.
Hubby works Saturday too. So I am still on my own...
We go to Mass Saturday evenings or Sunday mornings, depending on when he gets home from work.

Thank you for your ideas!

While this devotion has the image of Jesus with His heart exposed, so much of his life and devotion to Jesus encompasses the Sacred Heart. It is His Mercy and His Love -- reaching out all the time. At His Crucifixion, His Heart was pierced to be open to all men. His is the Good Shepherd, ever watchful and protective. Divine Mercy devotion really crosses over this, too.

So in talking with your boys, examples from the Gospel of Jesus' life of His love and mercy, discussions about ways of love, being loved, how it feels to be encompasses by love.

The Blessed Sacrament is the Sacred Heart of Jesus -- he is a Prisoner of Love, and we need to visit him, and attend devotions like Exposition and Benediction especially.

But specifics about the Sacred Heart:

If you could find a short story of St. Margaret Mary and the Sacred Heart, that would be a great start. I have a book, but it's hard to find. (and it's being borrowed, so I can't even pull the title for you.) I'm not crazy about Windeatt, but she has St. Margaret Mary biography.

Trailblazer for the Sacred Heart is about Father Matteo Crawley-Boevey, who worked tirelessly promoting the Enthronement and devotion to the Sacred Heart.

Father Larkin was another apostle, and wrote and taught more about the devotion. His Enthronment of the Sacred Heart is a classic work. It's very enjoyable, and the stories of conversion and blessings from the devotion are very good to read aloud.

For adults, Timothy O'Donnell's Heart of the Redeemer is a good source for understanding the devotion.

There is also a National Enthronment Center still going. This is the order of Father Matteo and Father Larkin.

My mother had the enthronement and nightly we recited this prayer, which I still love:

Quote:
RENEWAL OF OUR PLEDGE OF LOVE AND
LOYALTY TO JESUS, OUR KING, PROVIDER
AND FRIEND

Dear Sacred Heart of Jesus, we renew our pledge of love and loyalty to You. Keep us always close to Your loving Heart and to the most pure Heart of Your Mother.

May we love one another more and more each day, forgiving each other's faults as You forgive us our sins. Teach us to see You in the members of our family and those we meet outside our home, and to love them as You love them, especially the poor and the oppressed, that we may be instrumental in bringing about justice and peace.

Please help us to carry our cross daily out of love for You, and to strengthen this love by frequent Mass and Communion.

Thank You, dear Jesus, King and Friend of our family, for all the blessings of this day. Protect us and all families during this night. Help us so to live that we may all get to Heaven.

Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for us!

St. Joseph, pray for us!

Our Guardian Angels, pray for us!

Parental Blessing (optional).

Also, for children, there was this great devotion Tarcisians of the Sacred Heart. This site has all the links. This might be something to really encourage, especially for boys. We love the story of St. Tarcisius...I can share my favorite book if you wish.

The Apostleship of Prayer has some resources.

We have the "Do you know the Sacred Heart" booklet for DD1.

She thoroughly enjoys it, and has learned the basics of the Sacred Heart from it.

I can't believe it has been six years since I first read it, but this simple post by Fr. Longenecker helped me better understand the Sacred Heart as a convert. I often return to the image in the story he tells of Jesus asking us into His heart.

Over the years, Father has written several articles about his coming to understand the Sacred Heart as a convert. You might search his blog.

We ended up going to Mass, it was very nice. The little ones were not to bad either. The oldest who will be 10 this summer, but won't make his first communion until next May asked to go again tomorrow! What a surprise!
We are making cookies in a bit with heart cookie cutters. I found some heart sprinkles at the store last night so we can decorate with that too.

Thank you all for your help and inspiration.
Tonight we plan on asking Jesus into our home through his Sacred Heart.

What a wonderful family this is!
