Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

The entire church is invited to pray for the upcoming conclave at 11:00 a.m. EST. This is the time the cardinals will pray for it at their 6:00 p.m. vespers. You can read more about it at the National Register.

My daughter just pointed out to me that the National Register must have made a mistake in calculating the time difference! It should be 12:00 p.m. EST, not 11:00 a.m. EST. Italy is in the same time zone as my parents and siblings in Germany! There are six hours difference, not seven right now!

You are right, I thought they started at 6:00 p.m. in Rome, which would have made it 12:00 p.m. here. Sorry, for the confusion!

No problem Eva. Times can be discovered.. but it was really nice to see this first thing in the morning here (11am est is 8am here) so that I even knew it was happening before it was over.

To make it even more confusing, the time difference for Rome from EST is normally 6 hours but as we did our DST this past weekend and they didn't it's 5 hours. It's 10AM here now and 3PM there. After March 31st it will be an hour later.

That's true. Around this time of year, when I call "home" I always have to remember that it's not six hours. ! I do think that the European date to change to DST is much better than here, it's too early here. I was so happy to see some daylight in the morning these past weeks when it's time to get up, now it's dark again.

I agree. If we're going to do it (and really I'm not sure we even should anymore) I wish we would do it on the later schedule like we used to. When I was a child it was the last Sunday of April. It was moved to the first Sunday of April in 1987 and the current 2nd Sunday of March in 2005 --which just seems too early!

I wish we could do away with DST. It definitely is an indicator that our society is out of touch with our agrarian roots. Animals can't tell time.

Daylight Saving Time Explained (disclaimer, i watched this while i was half-asleep, so please check for appropriateness before you let your kids watch -- i don't remember if there's anything inap.)

I hate going on and off DST.... BUT.. it sure would be weird not to have it and have sunrise at 4 something in the mornings in the summer.

True and the Amish here don't do it but they have learned to adjust to the rest of us so much that we don't notice the difference.
