Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Hi all~

My kids were watching Holy Heroes, and the video said that today, The Feast of the Chair of St. Peter, is a Solemnity this year.

Is this true? I have been looking online and cannot find anything to corroborate this.

ie: My kids are insistent we can have dessert today.

Today is a feast, next rank below Solemnity. This Lent we only celebrate one solemnity, St Joseph (Annunciation is not until April 8). The only other high feast is today, Chair Of St Peter. Today Father wears white and the Gloria is prayed. But unlike a solemnity, the abstinence rules are not lifted.

I'd still give in for a treat, though, especially in context with Benedict and the papal transition.

I had the same question yesterday - I thought it was a feast but a friend said a solemnity. I think there is some confusion because there are "solemnity" references online. One thing I did note that may be leading to some confusion, is that the new Personal Ordinariate of the Chair of St. Peter (Anglican Use diocese) does celebrate it as a solemnity - Solemnity of Title. So for them it is a solemnity.

And last year there was a consistory of the new cardinals at the time of the feast and the Mass then is referenced as "Solemnity of Chair of St. Peter."
Quote:
Pope Benedict XVI leads the mass in Solemnity of the Chair of St Peter with new Cardinals in St. Peter's Basilica at the Vatican on February 19, 2012.

Jenn, do you know if that is a title for consistory Masses?
