Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I have recently started reading about The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd - wow! I wish my children had benefited from this when they were tiny! I have 12-year old and 8 1/2-year old daughters. I was looking at the Home Catchesis Manuals (I understand that it is not the same as catechism of the good shepherd) and wondered if that might be the right thing for us right now. THey have been doing separate bible studies, but I would like to pull us all into the same study for awhile. Has anyone any experience with this level of the program?

I am using it right now with 10,12,&13 yr olds. It is excellent and the kids are learning alot. We only do one lesson per week as it does take prep. for most lessons. I would not worry about the age of your kids. We started the 3-6 when my oldest was 9 and nothing in it seemed babyish to him. This book, 9-12, is focused on the scriptual covenants and really does a thorough job of covering how all the covenants mirror each other, reveal truth about God and the typology leading to Christ.

My kids are keeping a notebook with all the presentations recreated by them. In other words, I make the 3d presentation and they draw it in their notebook.

Hth!

That sounds good! I am really interested in the scriptural covenants - but should I back up and do the 6-9 manual with them and give the 8-year old a little time to mature? That way the 12 year old would be able to do two manuals. How many lesson are there in the 3rd manual?

There are 34 lessons in 9-12 but if you combine the Bible reading with the Story Box there would be 27. The 6-9 book follows the liturgical year and has a really nice advent presentation. It is hard to say, the 9-12 is more in depth and can require a lot more attention to detail but you can also adjust expectations for the 8 yr old. I think you can make it work either way. Either way, I would buy the book right away so you can start making your presentations. It helps to get a little ahead. Your 12 yr old may enjoy helping you prepare and that would give her the additional learning from doing element

Another idea would be to do both spacing the liturgical year presentations out and interspersing them with the covenents.
