My Godson (my male cousin age 17) is being confirmed this spring. In our parish you are confirmed as a teen ages 16-18. They only have classes every other year, so the age varies a little.

Anyway, I have no idea what my responsibilities are as his sponsor. I don't even remember my confirmation, so I am really at a lose here. Can anyone enlighten me? I do know I must attend some of the classes with him, starting in a week.

At our parish, confirmation sponsors didn't do a lot except attend a couple of the classes with the candidate and then were present at the actual confirmation. I don't recall there being a lot more than that.

I should add that this was just a couple of years ago, not when I was a teen :). I was confirmed when I was 30 . The teens had a separate preparation process, but I think it was similar to what we did - they also had a retreat of some kind, but I don't think the sponsors were with them for that.

The sponsors at our church are supposed to talk with the kids once a month to answer questions and help them grow spiritually. They also should be at the ceremony (although someone else can stand in). We don't make sponsors come to the meetings.
