Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

If you get a chance, please share about your children's First Communions on Sunday. Your children were in my prayers.

Oh Christine! I just saw this and it made me cry. Thanks so much for praying for my children! There have been so many "behind the scenes" difficulties, but I think we managed to insulate the children from them and they were excited and prepared.

Several of our non-Catholic friends surprised us by showing up to the Mass just before it started and my kids were beside themselves with joy. My oldest son (almost 9 yo) started out complaining about his suit, until I mentioned that he could offer the wearing of this suit up as an offering. We was so thrilled to do this! The children were so reverent. We had to leave the house at 6:30 in the morning and I was worried that everyone would be grouchy all day, but they were really concentrated on the meaning of this day and the seriousness of the occasion and the joy of participating in the Blessed Sacrament.

My daughter forgot everything except that she needed to be careful to not drop the Eucharist. She was very careful, and her heart was definitely in it. We are going to have to continue practicing I guess. She is such a sweetheart and she loves and understands her Faith well, but she is a bit of a flibberdegibit.

My sons decided to bow before taking the Eucharist and they were just so reverent it made me cry. I was so proud of them. They all participated in the Mass by going forward for the Our Father, and bringing in the offertory, and they were joyful and confidant and it was such a day! Both boys somehow missed the cup and were devastated when they got back to the pew. I took them with me when I went forward so they could drink from the cup. One of the ushers tried to forcefully stop us. She blocked us with her body and rather loudly told the boys to sit down, because the First Communicants had already gone. I attempted to explain in muted tones, but she protested so I just got in line with the boys in front of me so that they were protected from the scene going on behind me. I kept them to the side as I received the host and then said briefly to the cup bearer that they had missed the cup and she was so kind to them, and she actually thanked me afterwards for helping them complete the full Communion experience!

All week long they have been walking tall, being kind and thoughtful towards each other and longing for next Sunday. Our friends who showed up at Mass, have asked to meet with us to discuss what they saw and heard. I have no idea what exactly they want to talk about, but I told them that this is my favorite subject and we would love to meet with them next week.

So thanks Christine. For praying and for asking.

How beautiful!

The usher would have ruined my day, but you handled it wonderfully well. Your kids' First Communion is getting me more motivated to finish preparing mine. Thank you for sharing!

Michelle, I am happy to hear that things went well, for the most part. What a special day it must have been for all of you. May God continue to bless you and your family!
