Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Anybody else know about these? I grew up having my (very Catholic) Mother read these to us, and it seems like the extensive knowledge I have of various Bible stories comes from these! They are Lutheran, but such great resources.

Yes, I grew up on these, too. We had a lot of them. In those days (70's) weren't many other contemporary bible story resources. They were a good way to learn bible stories - old testament especially, as I recall. I looked at the link you posted - and it looks like the art has changed. I didn't much care for the 70s art of those old books - part of that icky style of illustration Melinda mentioned

I don't think I realized they weren't Catholic published.

IKWYM about the bad illustrations, but that's one of my favorite things . I actually paid a little extra to get some used ones from Amazon, just to have the same pictures I had growing up. My fav's were Esther & The Boy With A Sling. I suppose there's absolutely nothing remotely artistic about them, for sure.

I remember these well! We used to go to daily Mass and stay afterwards for the little coffee social in Houston. These were for sale, and my sister and I would read them, but my mother would discourage us, saying they weren't very good. She didn't give much more explanation.

the illustrations weren't that appealing, but they stuck with me because they are such a memory of those mornings.

I didn't realize they were Lutheran.
