Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I'm looking for a book of Saints that has them in chronological (of when they lived) order, not feast day order. Does anyone know of a book in this format?

Thanks!

I found my own answer that works, so I thought I would pass it along.

This file has the Saints listed in chronological order based on the two volumes of Saints for Young Readers for Every Day, which I already own .

Exactly what I wanted!

The saints stories in this beautiful book are arranged chronologically - Saints Lives and Illuminations. This volume is the combo of the two larger page volumes published earlier.

Another one I recently found (a Sophia Institute Press reprint) is very good and covers them in chronological order - The Young People's Book of Saints

Books I own or have seen.

Saint's Lives & Illuminations and More Saint's Lives & Illuminations by Ruth Sanderson
- The first book covers the first thousand years, second book the second thousand years.   There is an illumination and brief bio for each Saint. The artwork is lovely and it works well for an introduction to a Sant for the younger crew (even if they don't care for the bios there tends to be plenty to discuss in the picture)

The Loyola Treasury of Saints (mostly two large page spreads per person)
-while this book isn't perfect (some of the choices for modern times are a bit dubious) it's well illustrated, very readable and does a good job of placing the Saints within the context of history. It's also one of the few books of Saints to cover many of the New Testament saintsI like to use it as a read aloud with my 5 to 8 year olds.

Heroes of God's Church Twenty five short stories of the Saints with black and white illustrations and comprehension questions. A Neumann Press hard cover reprint from 1931.
-Best for slightly older children (8 or older?)

Fifty-seven Saints Short stories with black and white illustrations.
-This book may be better for older children as it's fairly blunt (forthright rather then graphic) about such things as as the reason St. Maria Goretti was martyred or why St. Dymphna had to flee her father.

A good book for adults and one I've found helpful as a reference is Voices of the Saints by Bert Ghezzi which gives a brief introduction of 365 saints in chronological order, each complete with a short quote either from the saint or his or her contemporaries. He also gives his sources at the back of the book for further study. There's a good historical and geographical spread. His selection of Saints and Blessed's for the 20th century is well worth reading.

BTW my oldest daughter would like to recommends books on individual Saints when possible as she finds them to be "more detailed and richer" with more story (rather then being a biographical skeleton).

I like Seton when looking *collections* of Saint books as they carry a number of them and their grade recommendations tend to be good.

Gosh, when I read this last night I had to go to my copies, as I didn't remember this at all. I have two different versions, and the revised version is quite forthright, spelling out even s*x for Maria Goretti. So I compared with the original version, and it's presented in a more veiled language -- he read obscene literature and wanted her to do something sinful. I love the old illustrations, also, so I will say here try to look for the original version (which will not have an author except "Daughters of St. Paul").

Some other books I have:

Out-of-Print:
Saints: Adventures in Courage by Mary O'Neill, illustrated by Alex Ross.

In Print:
The Young People's Book of Saints by Hugh Ross Williamson. (FYI, this is a reprint, so you can find older copies in hardback.) Ends at St. Francis Xavier Cabrini

Saints and Their Stories B Maria Loretta Giraldo and Nicoletta Bertelle. This is by Pauline Books, and this is good for the younger readers. Ana Braga-Henebry had a review on love2learn Pauline books go in out and out of print very quickly, so I would snatch this one up.
