My 5-year-old daughter has been saying she wants to be friends with a nun. I think that's great and I want to encourage it, but I don't know any nuns - and in fact I never have! Has anyone ever heard of a program that matches nuns and children, kind of like pen pals? My son is 7, and I thought it'd be great for him to write back and forth with a priest or seminarian. They're so busy, though, I'm not quite sure whether it's something I should pursue. Anyone have thoughts or suggestions on ways to make this happen?

One other thought ... I was thinking this could really be mutually beneficial. It would encourage vocations for the kids, and surely there are some nuns/seminarians out there who would enjoy being role models and getting to know the children.

It IS a good idea! Our dd's have done this..how we got into it was personally asking a Nun if we happened to see one in her habit.
The first Nun asked was one I saw at a Women's Conference. She told me she would have to ask her Superior, and then would let me know. Happily her Superior said "yes".
The other Nun we met was a missionary Nun, who right away agreed too.
Unfortunately it isn't consistent, as I'm assuming the Nuns lead very busy lives!

It is a wonderful idea. Nique's comment echoes somethign I was thinking, I'm wondering if it is something that could be sustained for an extended time, but in general I bet you could have pretty good luck with maybe a shorter term exchange of letters.
I don't have any great ideas for connecting with sisters or nuns. I could check with a friend of mine whose daughter is in an order and see what she thinks or if she has any ideas.

Knowing many of the seminarians here, I am sure they love to get mail and supportive messages from children and families (especially the ones who are at seminary outside of their diocese). As far as seminiarinas I would suggest going to your diocese website. A majority of them have a section on the seminarians with pictures and sometimes short bios. They often have an email or snail mail address listed and encourage you to write to them. To encourage responses, I would suggest including some stamps as well. Make it really easy and encouraging for them to be able to respond back.

Thank you all for the replies!  I think I will follow the advice to check with the diocese for seminarians. And we have some Poor Clares near here, so maybe I'll check with them.

Our church hosts a huge vocation conference each year. My children have formed several lasting friendships with religious through this conference. In fact my dd was invited to one of her penpal's jubilee celebration last month.
