Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Ladies,

I am trying to work my way through the Catechism, but have reached this point where it mentions the church tradition as one of the three pillars along with scared scripture and the magisterium.

My question is what are some of the examples of apostolic tradition? v/s the magisterium?

Thanks

Bev

Apostolic Tradition is also referred to as Sacred Tradition. They (Sacred Scripture and Sacred Tradition)are both the Tradition of the Church - one written, one oral. Sacred Tradition examples include: the teachings of the Fathers of the Church, the liturgical life of the Church. etc.

The authentic interpretation of both Sacred Scripture and Sacred Tradition is the role of the Magisterium. So examples of the Magisteria would be the councils, doctrines pronounced ex cathedra, etc.

I think this article by Mark Shea is helpful. He looks at the place of each piece with an interesting analogy. What is Sacred Tradition?
