Have any of you come across a kid's missal that includes the "new" responses going into effect in Advent 2011? My youngest is making his FHC in April and I'd like to get him a missal ... a good, true and beautiful one! ... that includes the beautiful langauge that will be coming.
Any thoughts or ideas of where I could look?
THANKS!

I haven't seen one yet, Mary. I've written to a few publishers, but no response yet.

I had an e-mail this morning from Liturgy Training Publications about "the Third Edition Roman Missal" being available to order now. I don't know whether this is the new translation or not - my computer won't let me go to the link that had more information. Anyway, someone else might know whether the new translation is the Third Edition. Hope that helps a little bit.
Peace,
Nancy

Checking the LTP site I don't find a children's missal. The 3rd edition they are offering is a regular one only. Which is what I suspected.

Ya really would think SOMEONE would have the forethought to publish one, wouldn't you?????
I always have a hard time finding a missal anyway since the pictures all look like the same pictures in the one I had 40 years ago! And the responses are the insipid ones!
I'll keep looking and if anyone has any ideas please holler!

It's not about foresight, Mary. The translations have been locked up tightly with copyright laws.

Here's the response I got from Chris Cash at The Catholic Company:
My understanding is that the texts have not been fully finalized yet. Until they are finalized, the publishers cannot print anything. I have been told that the texts will probably not be to the publishers until Aug or Sept, and we probably won't have new mass products until Oct. You are right that SOMEONE should have something out, and actually everyone wants something out right now....but they are not able to do it yet, and EVERYONE is frustrated.
So...if you are concerned about getting a book with the new language, you will have to wait.
Hmm .... guess I go to plan b!

I know you asked about children's missals, but I just got a response from Midwest Theological Forum which publishes the Daily Roman Missal which was my favorite Ordinary Form Missal.
Quote:
We will be publishing the New Daily Roman Missal, with the New translation, available around June. We will be sending out email campaigns when additional information becomes available. |

Mary,
I know this isn't exactly what you are looking for but for plan b you could get a subscription to Magnifikid. I am sure they will change to the new translation when it comes out and then you could buy the real missal for a St. Nicholas gift.

Thanks, Jenn! I was thinking of getting the study guide you mentioned and creating our own missal for Mass ... which is what I did with Thomas and Maggie! Thanks for this info!

Good idea! I've always avoided a Magnifikid sub for 2 reasons: cost (!) and I'd have to buy one for all three .... but I'll look into it again ....

Looks like Magnificat is publishing a missal and "pew cards" for the new translation. Here's an article from Zenit
Also, info directly at a page from Magnificat:
Magnificat Missal (dates are also included on this page.. Spring 2011, Sept 2011, Oct 2011....) I guess the planner and get-it-done-early part of me will just have to be patient.
Enjoying this discussion - glad to have many eyes on the look-out for resources... Thanks!
