Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

How do you keep Friday as a time of repentance?

How do you change (or increase/decrease) your attention or devotions based on liturgical season?

Love,

We do something with the Stations of the Cross every Friday - more intensely during Lent, but always something (we might read the Scripture for just one station for example and meditate upon it - during the main part of the year). When we remember we do this at around 3:00 - usually we forget and do it in the evening. Perhaps we should try to do it in the morning!

We fast on Fridays and Wednesdays:
no meat, no animal products, no olive oil (and another couple of "no"s that we don't have in our household anyway)

(On Wednesdays we look to the betrayal of Jesus, as well as prophecies and other Scriptural references to His death and resurrection)

I'd love to keep these days as quieter days as well, but Wednesdays we usually end up with something on the calendar; Fridays are pretty good in this way.

Other than intensifying things during Lent, we do the same thing throughout the year.

Connected with another recent thread we also observe NO fasting or abstinence in the Octaves following Christmas and Easter - these are festive days.

We do the traditional no meat on Fridays (except on Solemnities).

Normally Friday dinners are also quite basic with no frills (no treats or special foods).

It also happens to be the day when we go over the Sunday readings and do hands-on religion projects appropriate to the season.

This means that Fridays during Lent naturally have extra observances (such as the Stations of the Cross).

I struggle with consistency..

but something everyone looks forward to during Lent.. is attending a Stations of the Cross and then a soup and bread supper at church on friday..

oh dear.. I guess we won't be doing that this year we don't have the parish hall for the suppers.. well maybe we can invite a family over to our house once or twice for soup and bread.

And by next Christmas we'll hopefully have a new hall built.

We attend Mass on Fridays, do confessions one Friday a month (or on Sat. with Daddy)and I'm working on making it a habit to not eat meat! For some reason I still forget!    I'm good at it during Lent.

during lent we go to stations of the cross and of course don't eat meat. during the remaining Fridays of the year well we're not very holy - I give up something I love - usually a foot massage that I love and my husband often gives to me (isn't he wonderful!) and I ask my 5 yo what he will be giving up and he does whatever he says and my husband keeps his penance private, but the bad part is Friday is movie night at our home - well its cheap entertainment, or it could be game night. we usually have Rosary and chaplet of Divince mercy every night - just trying to redeem myself with that last note.

You're funny, dolorsofmary . Thanks for bumping this.

I would love to hear from others about how Fridays of Lent look at your home.

Love,

Throughout the year, we assist at Mass on Fridays and abstain from eating meat. During Lent, we also participate in Stations of the Cross on Fridays.

No meat and Stations @ church.

Friday is the one day we have no outside activities planned (unless we want to). It's our non=committal day and I work hard to keep it that way.
