As some of you know, I am working on a series of posts that link Mary and her titles to the Jesse Tree stories. I'm ALMOST finished, but I wanted to add a few extras for those who prefer to start on the First Sunday of Advent. I was doing great until I got to the very end...
Which is why I'm posting!
I need some help thinking of a title of Our Lady that has some connection to the Flight into Egypt and a simple ornament idea (made from felt and glue) for the same story. I'm completely stumped!
If you can't think of anything that goes with the Flight into Egypt, I could use Jonah and the Whale instead. The ornament is obviously a whale, but what title of Mary relates to Jonah????
Maybe all the great minds out there can think of something!!

for the Flight into Egypt, what about Our Lady of Sorrows (since this is one of the Seven Sorrows)...have you already used that one in your series? What about Stella Maris for the Jonah story?
I have your series bookmarked to go through when it's finished. My children are a bit young for it this year, but I have it on my list to go through with them next Advent. Thank you for all the work you have put into it--it looks lovely!

Would Our Lady Help of Christians work for Jonah? He certainly needed help. PLus, that was one of Don Bosco's favorite titles for Our Lady, and he was an expert on boys in trouble.

Caroline, Are you familiar with the statue in the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception Holy Family at Rest. It's so realistic, seeing the total exhaustion.

Your ideas are great, Celeste, except..aaarrgh!!!...I already used those titles. Here are the titles I've used so far:
Queen of Creation
Mystical Rose
New Eve
Refuge of Sinners
Mother of Christians
Mother of Sorrows
Queen of the Holy Rosary
Cause of Our Joy
Mediatrix of All Graces
OL of Good Counsel
Mary, Ever Virgin
Mirror of Justice
Comforter of the Afflicted
Handmaid of the Lord
OL of Perpetual Help
Ark of the Covenant
Seat of Wisdom
OL of Mt. Carmel
Health of the Sick/OL of Lourdes
Queen of Angels
Daughter of Zion
Immaculate Conception
OL of Holy Mercy
Spouse of the Holy Spirit
OL of Guadalupe
Mother of God
Mary, Star of the Sea
Wow! I didn't realize how many titles I had covered until I typed them all up just now!
I think it is a good idea for you to wait even several years. First, the young children need to get very familiar with the basic facts of the Bible stories. Then, when they are 6 or even 7, you can deepen their faith by showing them the meaning and the spiritual truths that underlie the story, including Our Lady's part in the plan of salvation.
I was thinking for Jonah maybe something along the lines of conversion/repentance?? but I already used Refuge of Sinners and Holy Mercy....

Yes!!! I thought of that and then forgot it (happens when you get a little older...) Thank you for that suggestion!
Jennifer, is that statue in the narthex on the side? I love the Basilica, but I haven't been there for nearly two years now. I guess it is time to go again.
ETA: I was able to bring up the picture (somehow didn't see it the first time) of the statue. Yes...it is just beautiful. How often I forget that Mary lived a REAL life and experienced all the exhaustion that we feel when we are under trial and strain. What must it have been like for her to flee, thinking of all those innocent martyrs who were giving their lives for her Son? Knowing that the world had plenty of room for the grasping and materialistic Herod, but no room for God...

It's in the crypt at the bottom of a stairwell. It's been a few years for me, but I love that statue.

It's probably too obvious, but looking at the titles of Mary
•Our Lady of the Flight into Egypt
or
Our Lady of Safe Travel
Our Lady of the Highways

Vessel of Honor or Spiritual Vessel? Thinking of the well as the ark or tabernacle. But you did Ark of the Covenant.
Did you do Tower of David for David?

This is great. I didn't know there were such titles as "Our Lady of Safe Travel" or "Our Lady of the Highways". I think I'll go with one of those, since "Our Lady of the Flight into Egypt" is a little hard to generalize. Also, I remembering here a prayer to Our Lady of the Highways that I could use.
What about an ornament for the Jesse Tree? It has to be simple, but I already used a donkey for the flight into Egypt. I thought about a rosemary branch, or maybe a pyramid might work?

Found that prayer. Here it is:
O Lady of the Highway, be with us on our journey, for all your ways are beautiful and all your paths are peace. O God, who with unspeakable providence does rule and govern the world, grant unto us, your servants, through the intercessions of our watchful mother, to be protected from all danger and brought safely to the end of our journey. Amen.
Isn't that lovely?

Yes, that prayer is lovely.
Rosemary branch was what I was thinking. Perhaps you can link to that legend.

Mother of Good Counsel of Genezzano!! Here is the story ~ the picture flew to escape the Moors overrunning the land of Albania, to Italy. I think that would tie in perfectly with the flight to Eygpt!
