Just curious - after reading about people not wanting to attend a Holy Saturday wedding, how about a Christmas Eve wedding? We are attending one, all 4 of my girls are in it, and the bride is my very young (17 yo) fallen away Catholic god daughter. The wedding is not Catholic 
We are asking for prayers for Dakota and Cory, that they understand and keep the marriage vows.
Anyway, just curious if you would attend a Christmas Eve wedding, so far, they have a lot of RSVP "no"s.

My first impulse is yes, especially if it were my godchild. I'm guessing that a lot of "nos" for that day are related more to family commitments rather than principle.
To me, Christmas Eve doesn't feel as problematic as Holy Saturday. I'm no liturgical expert, but I *feel* like Christmas Eve is more anticipatory with "joyful hope" and festive preparation while Holy Saturday is more a day of mourning and confusion since Christ's followers did not know He would rise from the dead.

I would agree with Lindsay.
The problem with me wouldn't be the day so much as a Catholic not having a Catholic wedding. That's a problem.

Liturgically, there isn't as much clash on Christmas Eve vs. Holy Saturday, like Lindsay and Michele said.
But I wouldn't go unless it was close family and part of the family celebration (and a Catholic wedding).
It's just a family time we guard jealously, and also expensive to travel during that time of year.
At least in our area the Catholic Church is so busy on Christmas Eve preparations and early masses, that there just couldn't be a special wedding in the church!

Considering it is your god-daughter I would. More in a case of wanting to keep those doors open with her, that is if you can easily get there.

Praying for Dakota and Cory.
It's hard to understand why they've chosen such a day for themselves to be wed. Surely they must have anticipated so many potential guests regrettably turning down their invitation.
...I'm actually sad for them that they have received so many "no" RSVP's; for them, I hope despite the lack of attendance, they truly have a joy-filled day

I agree with what y ou have said, that Christmas Eve is not a problem liturgically. I was j ust curious on how other people thought of it.
As for it not being a Catholic wedding, Dakota joined the church when she was 14 and living with me. It was difficult for her to maintain her faith when she went home.
Regarding the date: Cory is in the Air Force and has a Chriatmas leave, so the wedding is then.

I would go. You never know if showing that you still care for her will plant some seeds that may later bring her back into the Church.

After I read the other thread I remembered that my maternal grandparents married on Easter Sunday back in 1927. They married in a home because grandma was marrying out of the faith and could not get married in the church, and of course couldn't get married on Easter Sunday anyway!
They were married over 50 years. Grandma came back to the church and brought her two teenage children (my mother and uncle) with her. A few years after that my grandpa also converted. He then proceeded to become the most dedicated, usher, choir bass, fish-fryer the parish ever had!
All in God's time!
So I guess my short answer would be that yes, I would go for my god child's Christmas Eve wedding - and I'd pray for their marriage- because you just never know how God plans things out!

This is very difficult and in this case I probably would go to show my support and to leave the door open to encouraging her return to the Church and having her marriage blessed.

Now that you posted this, I believe my maternal g-parents were married on Easter Sunday, i believe in 1929 . It was, however, a wedding in the Catholic Church. I'll have to ask my mother about the particulars of it when she's here next. I do know that it was a very small wedding (only them and their 2 witnesses), and they always considered Easter their anniversary, regardless of when it fell in a particular year.
