I saw this idea for glass block nativity scene a few days ago and thought it would be PERFECT for those inkjet clings that MaryM shared in the Jesse Tree thread.
I got a 8" x 6" (4" thick) glass block at Home Depot today for $5.
Now I am thinking this is something that could be used year round. Put the Saint of the day on there etc.

That is so funny, Michele. Last week while I was at my mom's, we went to a new (for me) craft store and they had tons of those blocks with different Christmas ideas. It got me brainstorming, too. I was thinking of doing something with the tall narrow blocks - 4" X 8" X 1 size. Getting four, standing them upright like candles, painting (tinting) them purple and pink and putting the silhouettes (like the nativity you linked) of each of the symbols of the weeks of Advent. I know Jenn has posted them before, but I'm drawing a blank on the specifics. Clearly I hadn't gotten past the brainstorming stage - got to look for that.
And then like you I was thinking - how can I use these blocks through the liturgical year....

You should! I get a lot of thinking done while running. Of course it also helps that I got my low vit. D and progesterone corrected and that I lost 25 lb. (I have a lot more energy) but also being in a new house is inspiring. New beginning and all that.

Oh I didn't realize you could get them at craft places (though I think the hardware store is cheaper --mine is pretty big at 8x6x4 and was only $5)
I never saw Jenn's posts but would love to!!

Yes, the price you got at Home Depot is less than the craft store. I wouldn't have thought they would be a handware store - do they have different sizes? Or just the one block. The craft store I was at had I think 4 different sizes.

Oh, and Jenn posted about the Advent week symbols/people several years ago I think (or maybe it's on her blog of O Night Divine). Can't remember if there were actual visuals to use or would have to find some - it was just the idea. Hopefully she will jump in this thread and help me boost my memory on this.

Yes, lots of different sizes! They're at the hardware store because they are actually building blocks.
What reminded me of them is that my son is working a bathroom job (he a sub contractor) that has a glass block wall. But they keep running into trouble with them cracking!

THANKS! I knew it was Mary and John the Baptist (and thought there was an OT figure) - thanks for filling in the blank for me.

Oh, this couldn't be more perfect! We're about to knock out the entryway to our house, which is lined with glass blocks instead of standard sidelights. I'm about to have an abundance of glass blocks and was wondering how we could possibly reuse some of them!
