Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

A dear friend dropped by today to tell me he's Type II diabetic. I was distressed to learn that he is not doing much to manage his medical condition (he is exercising more, but not learning what he needs to about his diet). I would like to pray for him through the intercession of an appropriate saint (or saints), especially since I have other friends who are dealing with the same health issue.

Suggestions welcome and much appreciated!

Mother Pauline of the Agonizing Heart of Jesus (Amabile Lucia Visintainer)

Maybe Michele will chime in here, Nancy, and give some more information. Through an email group for catholic parents of T1 children I first heard of Mother Pauline. She suffered from T2 as your does your friend.

It sounds like he needs some education about this disease as well as our prayers.

And St. Raphael whose feast is today is a good general patron against sickness and bodily ills.

St. Josemaria Escriva has been mentioned as a patron of diabetes sufferers. He suffered tremendously for 10 years and then was miraculously cured.

Story is here.

I found a prayer card regarding this with this prayer:

Quote:
St. Josemaría Escrivá

Prayer for Those Suffering with Diabetes

O my Jesus, you accepted Your suffering so that we might have eternal life. Give my hardship meaning and ease my fears as you turn my suffering into a source of joy.

Your servant, St. Josemaría Escrivá, was cured after suffering with diabetes for ten years. He used his many obstacles and physical ailments as a passageway to holiness. Through his experiences you taught him that "sorrow is the touchstone of love." Overcome my sorrow with Your enduring love and purify my body and soul. I ask this through the intercession of Mary, Our Mother and St. Josemaría Escrivá. Amen.
