Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Hi!

My husband has asked me to put out this question for a friend of his from work, who is a Dad (a good one) and shares custody of his daughter.

Does anyone's husband have a good prayer they pray for their own children?
Would they be willing to share it?

Thank you SO MUCH!

I found a really nice one Inside the Homeschooling Planner I purchased from Syncletica! Here it is:

O Heavenly Father, I thank Thee from the depths of my heart for the awesome privilege Thou has granted me to participate in Thy divine act of creation and to bring forth children made in Thine image and likeness. I adore Thee for Thy goodness, and I thank Thee for Thy merciful love. I give Thee thanks for each child with whom Thou hast blessed me, and I beg Thee to watch over them and keep them from all spiritual and physical harm. And merciful Father, bless me and my wife, that we may be worthy guardians of our little ones; may we teach them each day, by word and example to love Thee and to always be faithful always to Thy holy Catholic Church. Bless our home, O Loving Father; may we dwell there in peace and joy, and may all our thoughts, words and actions glorify Thee. We ask Thee this through Jesus Christ Thy Son. Amen.

While this prayer is not specific to fatherhood, I have found St Patrick's Breastplate the most awesome prayer and a very powerful one for a father to prayer for their children especially if they are not in their lives at all time as this prayer is asking Christ to cover them in all things.

I know this one off by heart as it's like poetry, it's long but like poetry, so easy in that respect. Of course I make sure I have a copy on the toilet door for everyone to read, so another good place to put it if learning it off by heart is an issue.

Oh yes! St. Patrick's Breastplate

Christ be with me, Christ within me,
Christ behind me, Christ before me,
Christ beside me, Christ to win me,
Christ to comfort and restore me.
Christ beneath me, Christ above me,
Christ in quiet, Christ in danger,
Christ in hearts of all that love me,
Christ in mouth of friend and stranger.

I love,love,love this prayer.

What a wonderful idea Anne - thank you!

I will for sure pass it on!!

NOthing new to add here but I wanted to say that is a beautiful prayer Nique. I'm going to pass it on to my husband. I think that if one changes the one word, "wife", to "spouse" they could both say it together, which is what I'm going to propose when I show it to DH.

I've also always loved the St. Patrick's Breastplate prayer. I heard it put to music once and I used to sing it all the time. I'm so glad to be reminded of it!

I was thinking ST. Joseph would be a good one to check regarding prayers for fathers but I have not yet found one specific to that.
