Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

If you were very limited on how many books you could purchase for First Holy Communion prep, which ones would be your priority? Let's say you already have copies of St. Joseph's catechism, a Bible, The Catechism CC and different books on saints.
Maybe we should limit the list to the top 5.

Another question. What would be your favorite hands on activity for FHC prep? Banner making?

My parents are coming to visit at the end of the month, so I need to place my order now.

I would pick at least one good read aloud, like First Communion Days, The King of the Golden City, or The Story of Blessed Imelda.

King of the Golden City would be my one choice for a story book if I had to limit it.

We had to decorate our pew with a banner for my son's FHC, so of course we did that.

You could have him make a prayer book. Not much of an outlay for supplies, you probably have everything you need to make a nice booklet.

*****THIS BOOK, we talked about on this thread: First Communion Resources

One of the books I used for my First Communion was Bishop Morrow's My First Communion (he's the same author of My Jesus and I and My Catholic Faith). It's just lovely. I've been saving my copies for my son, but I found it listed in the OLVS catalog. I haven't tracked down the actual reprinting publisher, but I'm just overjoyed to see it in print. The illustrations are just so beautiful and leave a long-lasting impression (ask my 6 siblings!).

I think I got this at CHC. I like this book a lot. My daughter read it herself this year, and then we'd talk about what she read. It's a self-contained FHC catechism, that's for sure. It's "everything" in one little booklet. If I'm ever in a spot for FHC prep that is "survival mode"...no frills/fun/extras.....that's what I'd use.    It's not very well-made/bound. It's only been through one reading with one child, and the pages are already falling out. But, oh well.

*****A READ ALOUD or INDEPENDENT READ of Good Eucharist Stories---one of these would be my choice:

Any favorites from Neumann Press? Like "First Communion Days"?

We LOVE these!!!!! My daughter is making her 2nd way through both of these books. She loves them. They are very sweet stories.   This is the other one: True Stories for First Communicants. They are "musts" for us. Tarcisius and St. John Vianney are in there![/quote]

*****SECOND GRADE FHC supplement from their 2nd grade lesson plans. (no one has clarified if you can get these separately now, though)

********And THIS NOVENA BOOKLET:

This little booklet: Preparing for my Holy Communion is the ANSWER to this thread and is so BEAUTIFUL!!!!!   There is also a boy-version!!!!

They are simple little booklets, 8x11 pages folded in half, color printed on cardstock with beautiful 4x6 holy card / religious images on 1 side, the prayer on the other.

They do seem a bit costly for "a booklet"...it's not a BOOK or even has a durable cover. BUT it is REALLY SWEET and a beautiful booklet!   They are printed by Joe Bourbeau Press in Quebec.

Suzanne!!!! I cannot thank you enough! I saw these just two weeks ago and was wondering for a review! I'm planning for next year First Communion and was wondering about these booklets!

And so great that there is a boy one.

Now, I have some recommendations and some to ask about in another thread.

CRAFT:
**Monstrance
**Laminated bookmark with dates/place/pictures/stickers of their first confession and first communion.
