Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

and he wants to be a fireman for hallowe'en and so I promised that I would try to find a saint who was a fireman if I can. The best we can come up with so far is Fr. Mychal Judge who died in 911. He was a fireman and a priest. But I cannot find an authentic catholic source that states that he is a blessed. Any thoughts on this? I went to the vatican website and nothing there and patron saint.com. Help please. Thank you!

He's definitely not canonized, and there seems to be a bit of controversy swirling about him. You might not want to open up that can of worms.

I have a suggestion that would be a little different, but he could be a firefighter and carry an image and symbol of a patron saint of firefighters.

There are a few Patron saints of firefighters, the most popular in America being St. Barbara and St. Florian.

His story could then be about Florian, but he could still be the firemen. The Polish miners and steelworkers of Johnstown, PA had two windows in their church dedicated to St. Barbara and St. Florian. The devotion to these saints ran very high, as families and their livelihood depended on fire prevention.

St Maximillian Kolbe's Order had their own fire engine at their monastery in Poland - so maybe he could be one of the brothers who also worked on the fire engine?

I've actually heard of the "patron of" costumes quite a lot, and it seems to be very accepted among the All Saint's Day Party crowd.

I was thinking about how to post the idea of the "patron of" costumes on Catholic Icing, an dI guess they need to carry a sign of some kind that says "St. Michael, patron of firefighters" or whatever their saint is.

My husband is a firefighter, so my son was last year and I made his costume myself.

I used some khaki colored cargo pants with duct tape and electrical tape around the bottom. The straps I made from old overalls and red ribbon, which I hot glued together. The blue t-shirt we already had, and I cut the little emblem out of felt- again more hot glue. Anything to keep from pulling out the sewing machine, right?

And they have the yellow hats at the dollar tree. I also used the leftover yellow electrical tape to cover his crocs for boots, but he insisted on wearing his green froggy boots. His costume, right?

Good luck!

My little guy has his green froggy boots. According to him, they go with everything - quite the fashion statement .

Love,
