Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I took some time compiling all my collected lives of the saints books. I have quite a few, but realized they are underutilized. So I picked out the ones that have an engrossing narrative, "living books" style of writing. These would be captivating to read aloud, but also to read alone.

Some titles are Out-of-print, others have been reprinted. I know some of you like going on the hunt for good saint books, so I thought I'd share some of the titles. I posted more details on my blog, including list of all the saints included in each title. I didn't break down reading ages, knowing that all of these can certainly be read-aloud for any age.

I hope to add all these saints to a spreadsheet, but one step at a time.

1) Faces of Courage: Stories of Five Great Friends of God by Mary R. Berardi OOP

2) Saints to Know by Sister Mary Cornelius OOP

3) Fifteen Saints for Girls by Sister Mary Cornelius OOOP

4) Twenty One Saints by Aloysius Croft OOP

5) Twenty Tales of Irish Saints by Alice Curtayne

6) Fifty Seven Saints for Boys and Girls by the Daughters of St. Paul (older edition OOP)

7) Golden Legend of Young Saints by Henri Daniel-Rops

8) Ten Saints by Eleanor Farjeon OOP

9) The Saint of the Week by Sister M. Verona Murray OOP

10) The Saints and Our Children by Mary Reed Newland

11) Crusade, edited by the Maryknoll Sisters OOP

12) Saints: Adventures in Courage by Mary O'Neill OOP

13) Lives of the Saints for Boys and Girls by Caroline Peters OOP

14) Around the Year Once Upon a Time Saints by Ethel Marbach Pochocki

15) Once Upon A Time Saints by Ethel Marbach Pochocki

16) More Once Upon a Time Saints by Ethel Marbach Pochocki

17) Saints of the Seasons for Children by Ethel Marbach Pochocki OOP (Some stories have been regrouped in the above titles)

18) The Saints and Your Name by Joseph Quadflieg OOP

19) Saints and Festivals: A Cycle of the Year for Young People by Mother Mary Salome OOP

20) A Parade of Saints by Mark J. Twomey OOP

21) The Young People’s Book of Saints: Sixty-Three Saints of the Western Church from the First to the Twentieth Century by Hugh Ross Williamson

22) Story Library of the Saints, Volumes 1-3, by Joan Windham

I wasn't sure if anyone else would find this helpful, but just in case. I'm open to any other recommendations, too.

The secret to them not being underutilized is to enter them into your spreadsheet under their Feast Dates. As you have listed all the saints in the books you are nearly there

Yep, all part of the plan, Erin. One step at a time.

Bumping this up because I hit a goldmine of these titles for $1 a piece at a library stack sale last weekend.

Cornelius--Saints to Know (2 copies on accident, lol, but will be nice to have to pass along someday)

Daniel-Rops--Golden Legend of Young Saints

Farjeon--Ten Saints

And then, I found two of the Joan Windham titles that comprise the three volume compilation

--60 Saints for Girls

--Saints Upon a Time

And I have one title not on your list, Jenn.

Knights of God by Patricia Lynch

Anyway, I'm so glad to have the document from you blog already to work from!

Awesome finds, Lindsay! I'm not familiar with the last title, and I never heard of that publisher. You need to share a review!

Well, you piqued my curiosity, so I had to give it a closer look!

Kathryn mentions it in this thread and suggests it as appropriate for Middle Schoolers (5th-7th). I think that it could be read aloud much sooner, of course.

I've only scanned it, but it is more in depth than the other titles. It's subtitle is *Stories of the Irish Saints* and each saint's story has multiple sub-chapters with some of the more obscure ones stories being 15 pages or so with only 2 sub-chapters and St. Patrick at 8 sub-chapters and covering almost 40 pages.

It includes a page after the contents giving the years of the saints Ciaran (born 385), Patrick (387), Enda (450), Brigid (453), Brendan (484), Columcille (487), Kevin (618), Lawrence O'Toole (1123), and Ethne ("Came into St. Patrick's time).

There is also a poem that is spread throughout the book, with each saint getting a few stanzas telling their story, and in the end, the conclusion of the poem includes a few lines about various Irish saints from Ireland's "golden age" whose narratives were not included.

I think it would probably work nicely as a supplement to something like Our Island Story. The narrative is engaging, but I think that it is intended as more of a history than the other titles on your list (perhaps more in keeping with the Vision titles?).

Thanks for that, Lindsay! That does sound great. I guess I would view that as "supplemental" history reading.
