Ladies I wasn't sure where to post this . So feel free to redirect .
I would love some help on suggestions for stories about saints who worked with animals and those who loved plants , gardening etc. for children we have ds9 & ds14 . would prefer real books but online reading is ok if not to long .

There was this good thread several years back: saints in the garden that might be a beginning.

Not a saint, but Gregor Mendel: The Friar Who Grew Peas would be good.

I think I remember a few other books depicting saints; I'll be back when I think of them.

I love your questions...the ideas are endless. I was pondering about saints and animals. First of all, the patronages are quite a bit. And there are legends of unique relationships with animals and birds and fish. But then there are the everyday stories that doesn't have a special relationship, but illustrates the saint living out their vocation.

One that comes to mind is the role of a shepherd. We have so many saints that were shepherds at one time. St. Germaine Cousin, St. Joan of Arc, Jacinta, Lucia, and Francisco from Fatima...those are just a few that came to mind. St. Isidore the Farmer whose feast was the 15th (one of my favorites) must have dealt with oxen and other animals on a daily basis. I didn't delve into the flora connection with saints, although I know there are quite a few. Here's my first list that comes to mind, some of the unique relationships with animals, not the husbandry associated with them.; most are picture books.

I have marked a few books with a (?) because I have not seen these, so don't know what perspective they are written (i.e., more secular; or putting saints on a natural level, deemphasizing God and Catholic faith; or elevating animals; or making the animal/person relationship mystical or magical).

:: Saints Among the Animals by Cynthia Zarin (?)

::Saints Among the Animals by Margaret Ward Cole from 1905. (?) I can't seem to track down any copy. The above book is supposed to be inspired by this original.
