I'm looking for ideas of questions that I can use with my 2.5 year old daughter to talk about mass and to encourage her to observe what's going on. I'm wondering if there's anything in Catechises of the Good Shepard on this. Otherwise maybe we can brainstorm here.
I started with vestments - What was the priest wearing? - and she did notice the white ;)

Maybe more about the liturgical colors? We can tell what season of the Church's year we are in by whether things are "purple and green and red and white" (part of the Atrium "Colors Song".) Your daughter is probably too young to complicate things like rose, and red for martyrs; I wouldn't go into that yet. You could call her attention to other things that are in the appropriate color, not just the priest's vestments.
If your church rings bells at the elevation of the host, you could ask her to listen for that and then see what the priest is doing. The "Gestures of the Eucharist" are presented in Level I Atrium, one at a time (epiclesis, offering, breaking of the bread). She could watch for those, one at a time. In general, I would go slowly with so young a child; add a new thing to look for every couple of months.
I hope this gives you some ideas.
Peace,
Nancy

Thank you for the ideas, Nancy. I've been working with my daughter on listening for the bell and she has started to key into the crucial moment of the mass more. Yesterday I asked her to look for and listen for mention of sheep which also went well.

I was going to recommend the "All Things Catholic" cards from Jody's Hands-on Learning but was surprised to see that they are out of business. But they went over the names of different "equipment" used at Mass: tabernacle, paten, chalice, pall, etc. I used to have my girls see if they could spot a different item each week...kind of like a Catholic "Where's Waldo?"

Oh, that makes me sad that Jody isn't doing this anymore. I agree, those are nice cards. ETA: I think they were under the category of Montessori 3 part cards.
I think there are some other places to get some similar type cards. I'll have to dig up those resources.

Ask a lot of "I wonder" and similar questions or just observe things. In a way that there are no right/wrong answers persay.
I wonder what color Father will be wearing today.
I see the incense going up to heaven! How beautiful!

Please let me know if you find something similar. I am very interested in this for my kids! We've being going to Mass during the week and I am struggling sometimes to keep them attentive to what is going on.

I had black/white drawings of each item that I was using until someone gifted us with Jody's cards. I had thought about looking for full photographs, but left them alone when we got the others.
I have both a traditional Mass set and a new Mass set.

I've also been impressed by Cathletics, by Arma Dei (Monica McConkey). She has a Reverence and Awe set for Mass. She lives in Canada, so that does make shipping a bit trickier.
I know we've talked about in the past setting up a template for 3 part cards or something and share ideas for Mass cards or other Catholic 3 part cards.
