I know these were announced a few months ago, but I just ran across them again and thought it would be nice to have a thread. Last year we had a thread for the canonizations for the upcoming year. It was helpful to learn about them during the year in preparation for the canonizations. This years' canonizations were approved at an ordinary consistory on February 19 and are scheduled for canonization on October 17.
Blessed Mary MacKillop, the first Australian native ever to be so honored
Blessed André Bessette, the founder of St. Joseph's Oratory in Montreal
Blessed Stanislao Soltys, a Polish religious
Blessed Candida Maria de Jesus Cipitria y Barriola, the Spanish founder of the Congregation of the Daughters of Jesus
Blessed Giulia Salzano, the Italian founder of the Sisters Catechists of the Sacred Heart
Blessed Camilla Battista da Varano, an Italian Poor Clare nun.
Add your suggestions and resources for study.

Bumping as this date gets closer. Is anyone focusing on these soon to be canonized saints in October? I figure the Aussies are - this is such a big deal for you ladies!
Saw this Bl. Mary McKillip post from Whispers in the Loggia this weekend. I found this very interesting. What an amazing history and truly very fitting and timely for this canonization. I think Pope Benedict is a very wise man. A great intercessor for healing of this pain of abuse.
And I'm just realizing that Bl. Candida Maria has to be Basque. Her surname is Basque and her bio confirms she was born in a Basque province. We are going to learn more about her to connect to our Basque heritage.

Mary, I graduated from Manresa School of the Hijas de Jesus.
Yes, she is Basque.
We learned so much about her in school and celebrated a Mother Candida Day every year with special Masses, plays, choral performances, etc.
Here's a link to the lyrics of Clara Estrella (Hymn to the Mother Founder) -- there are a few errors. I tried to find a video/audio but couldn't find any. I can still sing it after all these years and find myself humming it from time to time. There's a newer version here, but the first one is what I grew up with.

As a Canadian we've been looking forward to Brother Andre's canonization.
There's a children's book for Brother Andre! Brother Andre the Saint of St. Joseph's oratory .
The website for St. Joseph's oratory also has a slideshow of his life with old photos and film clips http://brother-andre.saint-joseph.org/en/

Just a note saying that my copy of the Children's book on Brother Andre arrived today.
The account is written in a simple style with plenty of short quotes from Brother Andre.
The author also added short notes on historical events in the world surrounding Brother Andre (the end of the Civil war, Canadian confederation, the 1901 anticlerical law in France sending religious into exile-many came to Quebec, the First World War, the depression) which I found really brought home the fact that he was a modern saint.

The Columbia magazine (put out by the Knights of Columbus) focused on Blessed Andre Bessette last month with a great picture on the front cover and with some wonderful articles about him and his life. If I recall correctly, I believe they adopted (probably not the terminology they used) him as another patron for the knights. Here is a link from the knights, however, the articles published in COLUMBIA are not up yet on their website.
