Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I am looking for some ideas for an Easter craft. This craft will be done by children from age 2 up to teens. Usually the older children help the younger ones, so it doesn't have to be a craft that a 2yo can do solo and I would prefer that it wasn't. I have searched a lot, but have not found anything that really struck me. I want something with some strong significance, something that reminds the children of something important from the Easter story. And the craft can't be a craft that uses food in any way. Thanks!!

Beth

Budget?

Will this be after Easter or before Easter?

I'm always drawn the symbolism of light and the Paschal Candle. I love ways to decorate one's own candle.

We love the homemade pascal candles also. And it's gotten so much easier than when I first started making them.

Another craft we did one year with all ages was Crayola Model magic crucifixes. The dc painted molded them and painted them, then I sprayed them with clear sealer and we hung them all up.

Not a craft, but all ages can particpate in a "Radio show" retelling the Passion. Simply have the older dc write the script and record on an old cassette player or digital recorder. Everyone can have a part (or parts). My dc did these on Good Friday afternoon back when I had all of them at home. They also made newspapers some years.

Sorry to leave out some information. This will be after Easter and the budget is...well, whatever I decide it to be. If I really like the craft and symbolism I will be willing to spend more. It is for our homeschool group. I am in charge of the April meeting.

Eggshell Mosaics

We have done this several times with the left over colored egg shells. It makes a really pretty mosaic. And the egg is a significant symbol of Easter.

ETA: just reread that it can't contain food in anyway - not sure if this is too close, since it is a food product.

This sounds like a great craft, but we aren't able to do it since my dd is allergic to eggs.

Not sure if any of these are going to be usable, but here are some Easter crafts I've run across:

Stations of the Resurrection Box
Jesus is Alive Tissue Flowers
Resurrection Lapbook
Empty Tomb Craft

Also, here's a great post on a craft with crosses (it's a resist) that doesn't involve egg shells :-)

I've also seen lots of butterfly crafts being symbolic for Easter because of the emerging from the cocoon thing. I've also seen Jonah and the whale stuff for Easter because of the 3 days in the whale before he came out, but I know some people don't like to mix old testament with Easter. Good luck!

We have made pascal candles in two way before.
One is to cut out the shapes from the candle and then paint in the symbols. The other is to use wax sheets for decorating candles and then just'stick' these on.
Our children love candles because they can use them for all their prayer times

We also for Easter make a caterpillar ourt or a scrunched up brown paper bag and colour it in etc hten we have waxed butterflies with pipe cleaner antennae 'emerge' on Easter Day. Once again te children all like this craft and the older ones can get very creative using this as a theme.
Blessings
