I used parts of it with my older son, probably about 7th grade IIRC. I just recently pulled it out to read and plan to use it next year for my youngers, who will be 9 and 11 then. I love how there are so many levels it will work with, and is easy to add or subtract things.
The version I have is at least 6 yrs old; I thought I read somewhere that there is an updated one which includes saint examples for the virtues, or did I dream that? b/c that's what I'll be adding in, probably pulling from my kids' Little Flowers and blue Knights books.

Your're right, Karen. There is a new, updated version that has the things you listed added in. I don't own either version but I have heard that many people enjoy using this. Maybe someone else knows more about it.

I have P.A.C.E. for Catholic Schools & Homes (2006) and really enjoyed going through it two years ago! We first started it when my daughter was five or six, just reading stories and discussing them. We'd use the shorter quotes for copywork as she got older. And, my favorite part (and my daughter's) was we made a poster of each character-trait/virtue, adding pictures or drawings to it as we read and discussed more, keeping it hung up in our learning area the whole month. The activities are varied but more fun as the children get older.
Each virtue section has quotes from famous folks, a definition with synonyms and antonyms, stories from Bennett's Book of Virtues and Moral Compass divided by grade level, passages or stories from the Bible, comments on Mary and other saints, recommended book titles divided by grade level, discussion questions, writing prompts, music ideas, art ideas, nature/science ideas, classroom projects, and a list of how to practice the virtue. There are SO many wonderful ideas here!
I actually really liked it and will probably pull it back out again for next year as my son is about to turn five. I could see us doing it every two or three years, since there is so much for varied ages. BTW, once we had gone through it one time, we started Little Flowers, so we have never stopped doing a virtue a month! It gives us all something on which to work. Emmanuel Books sells it. I own it, but I haven't had a chance to use it. I was going to combine it with Little Flowers materials.

Jenny,
Could you share a little about how you incorporated PACE into your day? I have it, and I really like it, but I just don't seem to be able to find the time to use it like I want to. Did you use PACE daily? Once a week?, Whenever you felt like it? Did you have a routine to follow?
Sorry about all the questions. I'm so "ducks in a row" I drive myself crazy.

We recently purchased this - and I find it useful. We tend to use it more as a family book. Sometimes I find a virtue for discussion at dinner, then we followup over the next few days with recommended books or copy one of the quotes.
For me, it's just a matter of spending the money for something that I could've done, but with hours and hours of time. There are a lot of great resources here. I still keep my eyes open for other resources that teach the virtues -- besides the Book of Virtues -- and how to instill these in our children. The nice thing about P.A.C.E. is that it does have things for different age levels and it's possible to incorporate things for various age levels or to revisit the virtues across the years.

I'm happy to be more specific! I used it about twice on average, depending on how many other things were going on. Right after we open our school time with prayers, I try to include a brief Bible story, season and feast discussions/activities, or something else spiritual, including virtues, readings from Fr. Lovasik books, etc... The year and a half we did PACE, I included our time with PACE in this 5-10 minute slot when there was room. Some weeks I had time to prepare the activities or get books from the library to use; other weeks I just wrote "PACE Discussion" or "PACE Story" and used whatever looked good when I opened the book. :)
I found that once I was using it for a few months, it was simple for me to pull it out and just read the next story in Book of Virtues or turn to the saints and pick one we knew to discuss his/her demonstration of this virtue. I hope this helps! I found it very flexible, so one could plan it or not and the discussion was still fruitful.

P.S. Each day in our opening prayers, we ask God to help us grow in the virtue we are currently studying, so even on days we didn't use PACE, the practice of the virtue was still a goal present in our minds.

There's another new Catholic virtue program out there called Becoming a Holy Family Through the Cardinal Virtues. It's available through St. George Catholic Books. They have some sample pages on their website. It was written by A+ Curriculum -- they also have some info about it on their website. I don't own it, but maybe it would complement P.A.C.E.

I have the newest edition of P.A.C.E.
Personally, I think it is really boring.
I got it to use with my 4-5 year old...and was appalled by many of her Kindergarten selections. The grammar and diction were poor, to say the least...some of them were downright wretched children's books.
I noticed that the recommended reading for older children seemed to be quite a bit better.
It was also overwhelming for me, as there are many different things to do...but doesn't really recommend an "organization" to the ideas set forth...
Ultimately, I used it for about 6 weeks and it has not seen the light of day since. I will hang onto it for when my children are older...but really, I think a lot of work needs to go back into P.A.C.E. to make it successful.
Right now...I am not impressed with it. However, that could just be me--totally me. Others may really enjoy it.
