Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Hi Moms~

I have to highly recommend this book for your Lenten, spiritual reading--or anytime reading for that matter.

It is called "Consoling the Heart of Jesus: A Do-it-Yourself Ignatian Retreat" by Br. Michael Gaitley, MIC (Marians of the Immaculate Conception--they promote the Divine Mercy message).

This is an AWESOME read and will profoundly affect anyone's spiritual journey. It has been endorsed by many noteworthy Catholics, including Fr. Mitch Pacwa, Fr. Benedict Groeschel and (a personal favorite endorsement of mine) Danielle Bean.

It is especially perfect for "little souls" who strive to do the will of Jesus day after day. As Danielle Bean indicates in her endorsement, it is perfect for even "this hopelessly distracted wife and mother of eight."

It is a very real read.

It is available for purchase tomorrow (Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes) and is perfect as a gift for yourself...or anyone, no matter where they are in their spiritual journey.

I have read this retreat myself as Br. Michael is not only a close friend of ours, he is also the Godfather of our son.

Enjoy enjoy enjoy!!

Should I have posted this in the "Mothering" section?

Sorry for the confusion.

I am very tempted! My shelves are, of course, full of spiritual books, but I might need to make room for one more! I was definitely swayed by Danielle Bean's review!

Thanks Maggie!

I just purchased this. With our move happening a week into Lent - I need something do-able and this looks perfect. Thanks!

I bought it, too! I am hoping to get a group together to study it this Lent.

Br. Micheal's sister is in my local H/S group and sent me an email about it only yesterday. It looks really good - I like the giving up chocolate pitch too.

The chocolate pitch is hysterical. However, there really is a lot of meaning behind it! Meaning that...little souls will often try to give things up that are good, but they could be doing something that is better or more beneficial...or giving up the right thing...like no tv and reading Br. Michael's book instead. :)

I have never met his sister, but I feel like I know her...he talks about her a lot. :) Someday, I hope to cross paths with her family. She seems fantastic!

Maggie - I have never met his sister in person but we have communicated by email and prayed for each other a lot. We keep joking that we really will have to meet up one of these days.

Thanks so much. This looks great. I really love the MIC, or as we often call them, the "Divine Mercy Priests".
