Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

has anyone used this? WeeBelievers Mass Kit

I've seen lots of rave reviews on here for this nice metal one from Our Father's House, but am wondering if anyone has any experience with this (or a similar) cloth set.

if not, any thoughts on the benefits/drawbacks between metal sets (which seems more durable but also more formal) and cloth versions (which I can see the younger kids enjoying more ... or it is that I wouldn't be so worried about them breaking it that I'd LET them play more?)

I've been pondering this for months and want to make the plunge (FHC prep beckons), but I really want to make the investment worth it.

thanks for any opinions!

I personally prefer the metal and glass ones - even the younger are more readily attracted to them and are more likely to be reverent with them, versus the cloth ones that (in my limited experience with them) only encourage more of a "play" mindset - because it is so like their other toys...

Vivienne,

I have not seen it in person. I like the idea, but I thought it was very expensive. I didn't like the colors (I think they should be accurate and realistic, and not "toy-looking"). I also think the age level should be lower, for toddlers.

I agree with CatholicMommy that the real materials bring reverence instead of making a toy thing.

I agree that the more real looking the better for children who are old enough to understand the need for care and reverence.

I can understand delibrately buying the less realistic set for a one or two year old who's isn't ready to show a great deal of care and reverence, although the Wee believers set is more expensive then I'd be willing to pay for such a short period of time.

On that note I've found that 'graduating' to less toy-like items (moving from stuffed to ceramic nativity sets or moving from a toddler's cloth or boardbook storybible to a nice looking children's bible) has worked well to emphasis the fact that I expect more care and reverence from a child now that he or she is no longer a toddler.

I've found that nice items which the children *know* should be treated with care tend to last better then items which may be more durable but aren't 'nice'. (this even applies to the *nice* bowls which we use for breakfast most mornings-they've lasted longer then the completely ordinary soup bowls despite being used more often.)

thanks for the input, ladies. I realize that I am struggling with this decision because I haven't completely determined HOW it will be used. it sounds like people here use it as a serious training tool, while those I know IRL view them more as a hands-on learning approach.

adding to my dilemma is the price, exacerbated by Our Father's House charging me $50 to ship to HI. if I can't get anyone to bring it in their luggage, I may have to resort to the handmade piece-meal approach. sigh.

thanks for the advice as I muddle along ...
