My daughter will be receiving First Holy Communion next month, and I'd like to get her a really special gift.
Any ideas?
(I haven't searched the archives yet-- but I'm sure there are other threads on this- I'll do that when I get a chance.)

So much would depend on your daughter for if it's special. What is her love language for instance, what things is she particularly moved by. Would a pendant with the eucharist (chalice and host) on it be loved and worn and special.. or would her own Bible be what speaks to her. Or maybe a special frame to put her picture in. Or maybe she'd love a very special rosary to use.

My daughter's favorite first Communion gift was this St Terese blanket from her grandmother. She sleeps with it every night. She has a real love for St. Terese and I must say, out of everything she received that day, this gift just hit the spot. It was such a hit that my MIL has already purchased a similar Immaculate Heart of Mary blanket for my 2nd dd, who will be making her first Communion this Spring.

My dd's favourite gift was a lovely prayer book with a special cover. It's got 'Remembrance of FHC' or something on it. Inside it's got lots of beautiful prayers -- all the usual ones plus some that I hadn't heard of -- eg the night prayers talk about binding oneself with St Bridget's girdle or something like that! Anyway, it's got space inside for her to fill in her name and the date of her FHC -- but also the date of her Confirmation. It's certainly something she'll be able to use for many years.
It's probably something really obvious to you cradle Catholics but as I am a convert, it's all new and lovely to me!

My dd will take her first communion in April, and I'm planning on getting her a very nice charm bracelet with a charm for the occasion.

We always buy them a prayer book and a statue. They all look forward to picking out their own statue and it can be a new one or an antique one if we can find a beautiful one. They all have their FHC statues in their room and say their morning prayers before it. I thought it would be a special thing to take with them someday when they set up their own home.

I made my dd a Swarovski (sp.) Crystal birthstone rosary for hers. I also made one for her older brother at the same time, since the one he received at his FHC had broken multiple times.

if it helps, Catholic Child is having a sale on everything in their First Communion and Reconciliation Department. you have to order by Wed (Jan 13) and use Code 149011 to save 20 percent.
I need to get on this and look at these threads too ... thanks for asking, Sarah!

We bought our daughter a keepsake box for cards, a little photo album for copies of all the photos of the day and a picture frame for her dresser. My husband made her a rosary out of beads she had picked. These all worked out so well we are planning to do the same for daughter #2 this year!
