Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I just got to thinking about how neat it would be to have music to tie in to our upcoming Jesse Tree Advent activities. Super musical kids around here. Any ideas out there? I checked on amazon and didn't find much when I searched "jesse tree music."

Thanks!!

Wow! I didn't think of that before! What a great idea! I'm sure there must be some sort of hymnal for children out there with bible songs in it. Our Protestant brothers and sisters do a great job of providing childrens bible songs and many are suitable for us to borrow. We're Byzantine rite and our "Advent" season (called the season of Philip's Fast) began yesterday, so we just put our tree up. Tonight we do the story of the creation and rebellion of the angels and I think I'll go over a hymn we use for St. Michael's feast tonight with the children; they just love that one. I'm going to give this some more consideration this season. Thanks Kiera, for bringing this idea to us!

Yes - this could be a such interesting project!

I just put together a little song booklet for a Thanksgiving Tea we will be going to go on Friday and it is so easy to look up lyrics and even hear tunes to many songs and hymns.

I would do less songs if the children were younger and add more each year. Start small and build up a collection over a few years.

I might have my older girls each learn a new song to sing for us and I'll see where some that we already know might fit.

Hmmm...the wheels are turning...

We normally just sing advent songs after we do the Jesse tree readings but I just bought this book The Advent Jess Tree. It uses most of the Jesse Tree symbols that are in the Jesse Tree Ornament Swap. For each symbol it has a picture which can be reproduced, scripture readings (which are almost the same as the Swap), a memory verse, a list of children's bible songs (mostly old favorites) a children's and adults devotion and prayer.

It's protestant (so it doesn't include the Marian ornament) but I didn't find anything else that was dubious.

I'm still looking... and happened upon some Jesse Tree music composed for children by Dennis Newman. Has anyone heard of this or used it?
