A few families are joining together for a May Crowning to take place in the home of my friend. We have never done this before and would love ideas how families do this. Do you integrate a Litany AND the Rosary into the service? The song I have heard about, Bring Flowers of the Fairest (Rarest)?, is unknown to me, except through this forum. Is it a must sing????
I would really appreciate your input.

In the last few years as I recall there has been either a Rosary OR the Litany, but not both.

Doesn't answer your question directly about litany or rosary, but I found some resources at the University of Dayton Marian site.
Coronation of Mary
May, Mary's Month, Marian Coronation
May Hymns - including Bring Flowers of the Rarest
It has sheet music for many of the individual songs.

It's my understanding that a May Crowning is a private devotion and that means that there are no hard and fast rules as to how it can be done. We had our family celebration yesterday. We use the Litany of Loreto as our inspiration so for our actual crowning, we sang Sing of Mary and Bring Flowers of the Rarest while we crowned our three largest Mary statues and placed flowers on our Mary altar. We incorporated some prayers from this Marian Coronation Celebration for Parishes, prayed the Litany of Loreto and then finished by enjoying a Loreto themed supper.

We will be having a big May Crowning on the 24th (Feast of Our Lady Help of Christians) our patroness of Australia. We will say the rosary, most likely in procession with some young boys carrying Our Lady at the front - here is our crowning from many years ago.
We will also sing Bring Flowers of the Rarest and other similar hymns, one between each decade.
We will then have a consecration prayer after the rosary and then the crowning.
Then some exciting Marian games for the children...a Marian Treasure Hunt and Quizz involving three teams (Team Guadalupe, Team Lourdes, Team Fatima) also a game that will involve images of Our Lady being matched to the title and explaination in a sort of musical chairs format..and also a large image of the miraculous medal (both sides, drawn next to each other) on cardboard..the children will need to pin the 'M and cross' image on correctly, blindfolded.
I hope to make some of the lovely things Charlotte made, they were amazing as well as some of the cakes over at Catholic Cuisine there is a lovely crown cake and rosary made up of cup cakes...I'm looking forward to it all.

I had no idea that Our Lady Help of Christians was the patron of Australia. That is my daughter's birthday and she is named for the Blessed Virgin. If we weren't celebrating a birthday we would be celebrating that day for sure! Can't wait to see your gorgeous pictures Anne!

We met yesterday afternoon for our May Crowning. Two husbands attended, who we have consistently prayed for during our weekly rosary. (This May Crowning was initiated by our little Rosary group of 6 women, who meet weekly and which has brought much fruit.) One is not Catholic and the other is a non-practicing Catholic. We were thrilled! We began socially with pizza, salad , etc. and lots of discussion. We moved to another room, where the father of the house gave a little introduction to the history and tradition of May Crowning, which I found online. We then prayed the Angelus and began singing Immaculate Mary, while everyone proceeded into the living room where the figure of Mary stands. It is Our Lady of Mt. Carmel. My dd5 is the youngest, so she had the honor of carrying the crown on a beautiful pillow up to Mary, and then a 17yr old girl placed the crown atop Mary. Each person then placed a rose at the feet of Mary and then we prayed the Glorious Mysteries of the Rosary. A native Mexican woman and then a native Honduran shared their childhood experiences of the month of May and the honoring of Mary. It was very touching and I believe enhanced the whole event.
We then went joyfully to dessert, which was a white butter cake with a cream cheese frosting and watermelon slices.
It was truly beautiful and I hope pleasing to Our Mother.
