Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I've been enjoying the head of family thread. Today I enjoyed reading Willa's links posted there about femininity. Which leads me to...

How do you deliberately develop virtues modeled by Mary? I'm especially interested in gentleness and tenderness.

Thank you!

Dear Angie and all,

My very dear friend Helen sent this response to this thread:

I read about meekness in St. Francis de Sales'
_Introduction to the Devout Life_. He says you need a
wellspring of meekness, an overflowing amount in your
soul, to be able to practice meekness. Assaults
against meekness come, often, without warning. So, if
you want to be meek, you need to pray continually for
it.
The saint also says: Meekness is being patient, but
also, being nice about it.

The way to be meek the way Our Blessed Mother is meek,
is to study Her virtues. To study her life and then to
continually think of Her, and pray with Her. By
studying Her life, it is easier to speak with Her. St.
Maximilian Kolbe says you can't go away from a
conversation with the Blessed Virgin and not be
changed.

You may want to try emailing maryvitamin@yahoo.com, in
order to join this group and receive a daily Marian
meditation by email.

Pray specifically and by name for gentleness and tenderness.

When not tender, repeat to yourself a Hail Mary.

When tempted to not be gentle, sing a song praising Our Lady!

Have you ever wondered if Our Lady was strong willed? I was reflecting on my strong willed Maria and thinking that for a young woman to accept the invitation to be the mother of God, she had to have a will strong enough to follow her convictions. It's a subject I've never seen discussed anywhere.

Hi Rachel,

I don't know if "strong-willed" is the right word for Our Lady since Her will was totally conformed to the will of God's. She was immensely "strong" though although that word doesn't seem to fit either. I attended a formation class today for a Marian apostolate & the priest there was saying that if any of us had to endure what Our Lady suffered at the foot of the cross it would kill us! You might find your answer in St. Alphonsus Liguori's book The Glories of Mary.

I second the recommendation for the Mary Vitamin.
