Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

We have found some beautiful miniature creches that are inexpensive and would like to give them as Christmas gifts. However, there are several people on our list that we are unsure of. One of them is Evangelical Protestant and the other is Mormon. Does anybody know if a creche would be acceptable to these folks?

Traditionally, I would have said no. Growing up in an area that was predominantly LDS, they did not utilize these symbols of Christmas (their beliefs about Jesus's divinity etc. are very different theologically from Christian churches). My mom has commented in the past several years that the local LDS church has been setting up a nativity scene and I see that there is one in Temple Square in Salt Lake City. Don't know if that helps.

Thanks Mary, it does. These are people that my dh works for. It would be a bad idea to offend them, but we wanted to focus on the true meaning of Christmas in our gift-giving this year. Not sure if we should pursue this or not...

Becky,

My Mormon friend bought nativity scenes for her family, but she never purchased the angels, as apparently in LDS theology angels don't have wings. I'm not sure if that helps, but it's interesting anyway.

As far as the Evangelical Protestants go, from what I see on the FIAR board, many are embracing Advent traditions of a sort, and seeking ways to make Christmas more meaningful. I'd say go for it.

Thank you Katie. The one we are looking at has no angel. I think we'll go ahead with it. I wish I didn't have to worry about this sort of thing.

Becky-
Just to further what others have written-I grew up in SLC, Utah and we still get cards from people there (Mormons) and they often depict navitiy scenes on them, so I think you're okay there. Also, its neat to give something to others that is a part of who you are-from your faith. Hope this helps.

I'll second what Sarah says. My dh teaches at a Catholic private school but one of his students gave him a Buddha as a goodbye present -- that meant alot to both the student and my dh!
