Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

When I converted, dh bought me a sacred heart holy water stoop, made of plaster I think. It lost a lot of water through evaporation, and dh thought it was making the wall it hung on damp - so when I saw some glass ones at a good price, I bought a replacement. Now I don't know what to do with the plaster one - I thought of using it above my kitchen sink to hold my hand soap - but then I wondered if that would scandalise people or not? It was never blessed, but it is an image of Jesus and while I mean it nicely, to still enjoy it and thik about Jesus, that might seem a bit odd. The soap/holy water, goes in a sort of bowl at Jesus' feet, not as part of His body, or anything. So...what do you think?

hmmm I don't have any idea.. so I went and looked up up sacrilege

Quote:
Sacred objects are desecrated by sacrilege whenever something sacred is used for an unworthy purpose. This includes the Mass and the sacraments, along with sacramentals; sacred vessels and church furnishings; and ecclesiastical property. Desecration in each of these areas includes the deliberate invalid reception of the sacraments, simulation of Mass, grave irreverence to the Eucharist; gravely profane use of sacred vessels or vestments; and the unlawful seizure of sacred things or ecclesiastical property.

the holy water font isn't the sacramental, and I know the chalise and plates (what are those called?) for the Eucharist are sacred vessels.. but where a holy water font falls, I don't know.. I would not think so.. but would probably err on the side of caution and not do so.

You could always use it as a small receptacle for small flowers, like the ones that tend to grow in one's yard, pansies, etc--placed at the feet of Our Lord?

Or, wouldn't it be lovely next to a child's bed as a Rosary holder?

Jennifer, either you have a great deal calmer children than I have or you have some magical way of attaching it to the wall so that you wouldn't be worried constantly about it being knocked off the wall
