Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I do not remember whether or not I had a cloth that use to be used as an altar cloth blessed or not, so I am assuming it was. I would like to put it to use for another purpose. I read that if an older item is sold to another person it loses it's blessing, as the blessing is not transferred. So, can I give the item to another person who would not be using it for religious purposes? I want to let my dd have it for decoration/play if that is possible. Any insights?

Thanks, hsmom

Was this an altar cloth? Was it used for Mass and the Body and Blood rested upon the cloth?

I'm not sure if altar cloths are ever "blessed" but they are designated for sacred use. If the cloth was used for Mass, it shouldn't be used for anything else. I do not believe you should repurpose an altar cloth.

As far as transferring blessing, I think that's only for blessing of persons or enrollments. Those can't be transferred from one person to another. But blessings of devotional objects doesn't become null and void just because of another person's use. The object is a blessed sacramental. You are never allowed to sell blessed objects, and once they are blessed, they should be treated with respect.

HTH.

Sorry it has taken so long to get back to this. It was actually for a home altar that I had been using it. I have decided not to "repurpose" the cloth unless I find out otherwise that I can. I appreciated the input.

Thanks, hsmom

Home altar as for the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass? Or for a home prayer center kind of altar? If it's the latter, you can repurpose it.

Thanks. That's good to know. It was for home prayer.
