Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I want to start doing this as there is a church close to me that does it all day. I am "new" to this and think I have a strange question.
I am learning the rosary and have a CD. I love it. The music helps me enjoy it a lot. Would it be wrong to listen to it at adoration? with headphones, of course. Would it be strange of me to read an inspirational book during my time with the Lord? Of course, I will pray but how else can I spend my time there? Journaling? What is OK and what is "rude"?
Thanks for helping me out!

Anne--The Real Presence website has great information including these general guidelines (we gave a version of these to all our adorers):
http://www.therealpresence.org/eucharst/manual/section5/sec5 _56.pdf

CD's or verbal prayer is in general not allowed. There are some exceptions that your coordinator may make if 1--You have an hour all to yourself (and no one drops in) or 2--If it is designated as a family or group hour and some of the rules are relaxed. Spiritual reading/Rosary/DM Chaplet/Scripture reading and just being quiet are great ways to spend your hour. Enjoy.

I always bring a journal to adoration because I find it really helps focus my prayer. I should probably make more of an effort at recollected mental prayer and try to grow in that area. But my husband always reminds me to "pray as you can" and I tend to dwell on grocery lists and such if I don't have something to focus my attention.

Anne,
I've done everything from read storybooks to my little one, talk openly with dh, jotted down lists, even paid bills! Though I prefer doing spiritual reading.

We usually have the chapel to ourselves but when someone does enter, we usually quietly read a book or meditate.

Enjoy your time; God's going to love you being there.

I have a holy hour every week with all of my children. Our co-ordinator assured me that it was our hour with the Lord and we were to use it however we felt led. Kids have brought their guitars and violins to play songs while the rest of us sing, we read aloud, we have some really great discussions, and of course, we pray. I do require some quiet time when we first come in and then again 15 minutes before we leave.
