Hi all:

Just wanted to share two easily implementable Advent ideas that just *might* enrich your holidays.

First, we pick names around Halloween. The person whose name we pick gets extra special treatment from the person who picked it until Christmas. The picker also chooses a gift for $10.00 or less. I thought of this too late, but maybe we could incorporate a saint game into this tradition next year by typing up a little bit of the story of the saint (without giving the saint's name) and having the picker guess who he or she picked (without the picker telling the whole family who he picked).

For instance, "This saint was called the Little Flower. She did every task for the greater glory of God."

"He is the patron of lost items."

The other idea I had was to write an acrostic the first day of Advent. On one side of the page is the word ADVENT written across the top. On the other side is the word PREPARE. The kids have to think up words that our family wants to be like when Jesus comes. Patient, Responsible, Enthusiastic, Peaceful, Adoring, Respectful, Eager ... get the idea? Each word that they think of must start with one of the letters in the words PREPARE and ADVENT.

I hope these ideas will help someone.
