Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Because he is holding an 'important job in difficult times,' does your brow furrow?
We pray weekly for the president elect, but never for the current administration. Frankly, I am a little fed up with hearing about Obama everytime I go to Mass. I feel like I could've heard an awesome homily about emptying ourselves of ourselves and allowing us to be filled with Christ like Mary did, which is something he touched on.
Am I being petty? Can I mention it to him?

**Moderator's note**

I don't want to dismiss your concerns on this subject Leah but to be sure that any thoughts shared here do not result in conflict, however unlikely it may be, especially with the proximity of Christmas, I think it would be best that it not be discussed.

It had been stated previously that a clarified and more specific statement of policy on this topic (politics) is forthcoming.   I can say that this is now a work in action for the future benefit of all and will be available soon.   This I know will be helpful to everyone in the discernment of suitable topics of discussion on a board dedicated primarily to Catholic mothering and learning within the home.

Leah, may I add that it is a worthy subject to blog about. I know I would love to share my opinion, if you choose to share your thoughts there.

Annie,
I apologize for the poor wording. I would be just as bothered if it were Pres. Bush or Sen. McCain or any other political figure that was compared to Mary, the Mother of God. My real questions, asked in the search of truth and honesty only, were:
1. Do politics like this have a place in the pulpit (do you call it that in the Catholic Church)?
2. Are priests approachable? Meaning, when I was a Protestant I could simply voice my opinion as it contrasted with my preacher's opinion. But in Catholicism, their is much more respect for the position of pastor. So, can you ask pointed questions regarding something you heard in a homily or is that questioning their authority?

That's probably how I should have originally posted. Again I apologize. I did not want to sound as anti-President elect Obama as I must have. I do pray for him, and all leaders, daily.

As an after thought, I will ask this question on my blog, so please help form this Catholic convert over there.

Thank you for your understanding Leah.

You do not have to apologise for your personal position Leah. It is just the discussion or referral to politics in general that is a difficult subject to moderate.

On a board such as 4 Real where our shared relationships help build up and support our own individual lives in the home with our children, it is far better to avoid any subject not directly related to the 4 Real’s mission that can cause hurt and bitter feelings between each other.

I’ll certainly join you over at your blog, you have fleshed out more specific questions that I would love to add my opinion to. For anyone else that may wish to join, I'll see you there, this thread is now closed.
