Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Anyone have any ideas on good adult Catholic books that you would give your fil???

My fil is very religious, a weekly confession goer, says the Rosary 3X a day and attends daily Mass. We joke he'd go to Mass 2x a day if he could!

Anyways, I was thinking maybe a book about St. Paul. Any ideas what an adult would like, I'm so kid-centric I can't think of anything.

The one idea I had (not about St. Paul) is
The Dolorous Passion. That is one book I have read! He likes the "Passion" movie by Gibson.

Any other ideas?

Kacky,

My dh loved The Passion of Christ, tried reading that book and really didn't like it. He said the minor details were dragged out to such infinitum....hard to read for him. Just providing a man's opinion.

I do have some other suggestions. I usually enjoy anything Scepter Press prints...much are reprints of great Catholic classics. Scepter Press has two books on St. Paul. Dh read and enjoyed Paul of Tarsus by Joseph Holzner and their reprint of Daniel Rops, Saint Paul - Apostle of Nations I know will be good.

Since he's so spiritual, does he have any of In Conversation with God? These follow the Church year and would be great for all the time he can't make it to the extra Masses.

Does he like Catholic history? Triumph: Power and the Glory of the Catholic Church by H. W. Crocker III I've heard is very good (the only criticism I've heard is the choice of the title).

I also read a review by George Weigel for A Short World History of Christianity by Robert Bruce Mullin. The book sounds very interesting.

Then there are the books by Pope Benedict, if he hasn't read those: Jesus of Nazareth and The Apostles.

And dh just came home with a new book, Render Unto Caesar: Serving the Nation by Living our Catholic Beliefs in Political Life
by Charles J. Chaput.

a BIG THANKYOU to you Jenn!

I went with the Paul of Tarsus and I forgot that our parish priest has a booklist of recommendations too. So I choose Introduction to a Devout Life by St. Frances de Sales too.

Thanks and I'm keeping this list!

I'm rather late, but perhaps he'd enjoy the book

Eucharistic Miracles by Joan Carroll Cruz
