Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

We're getting ready for Sunday's Feast of Christ the King with Shrinky Dinks. We made some pins today and have the word "reign" on our mantle.

This week we might also make some construction paper crowns and a cake for the weekend.

I have some links at my blog: Shrinky Dinks for Christ the King

I was going to just copy my blog post here but I ended up adding links.

I tried to search the forum for previous Christ the KIng threads and didn't find any.

What are your plans?

This is the day when we make our resolutions for the new year! We write them, share them and post them on the fridge.

Our parish begins our yearly 40 Hours of Devotion on Sunday.

Thanks for the links Helen!

God bless,

Mb

We sing For Christ the King (by Rev. Lord) everyday! Our parish does a Eucharist procession on Sunday and our dh's school does one on Friday in anticipation. I'm not sure if we'll be able to do either this year.

Here is the cake/bread we make for Sunday after Mass.

DD decorated a bulletin board with "kingly" things and pics, and we'll color crowns Friday.

I've planned a teatime for the Feast of Christ the King. Nothing fancy, but I laid the plans out here.

I like the little crowns that your children made, Helen. And the cake looks wonderful!

We're just back from a vacation and family wedding, so jumping back into activities head first tomorrow. I'd set up a Christ the King day for our homeschool group before we left. We are meeting at our archdiocesan seminary and offices where the chapel is named Christ the King. It is a beautiful lombard style chapel and a couple seminarians are going to lead tours for our group.

Then we are meeting afterward for a snack - making cupcake crowns, decorated with Kissables and doing coloring pages from Fenestrae Fidei. I think we are also going to talk about the Mexican martyrs and "Viva Cristo Rey." Another one of our members ordered the tear off liturgical year calendars from LTP and we'll be passing those out and talking about the upcoming "new year" - I think the idea for resolutions is great, Marybeth.

Oh, and I found this link to a really old thread - but it does have nice ideas for the feast day - Solemnity of Christ the King

Such great ideas. I've been planning, but haven't had time to post my plans until last night.

End of the Church Year has all my links to Catholic Cuisine and O Night Divine. I scanned the music to the song, "For Christ the King" that Maryan mentioned, and I also have a nice paper craft that can be used as a centerpiece.

I'm doing a countdown on our laminated Liturgical Wheel. Ds is using dry erase markers and crossed out all the days we have celebrated through the year...showing only a few days of green left, and marking off those days. He's excited to see the end of Ordinary Time and the change of calendars and seasons. Advent is almost upon us!

And Marybeth, I love the ideas of talking about resolutions, as I was going to focus on that, too.

Is Sunday the actual end of the Church year, or is next Saturday the official end with next Sunday being the first day of Advent??

Thanks!

Saturday is the last day of Ordinary Time, but Sunday is the last SUNDAY in Ordinary Time.

If you have 4 minutes, this video of various Christ the King images with Handel's Messiah playing is very nice.

We made a big red poster gluing crowns with jewels over our crowns around a picture of Christ the King in the centre of heaven.
We also had a big BBQ feast with friends. (We're in BBQ mode down here as it is pretty hot in Sydney).
