Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

My son has been faithful to pray for the dead this month. Since our remembrance service at church he has closed his prayers by saying, "please pray for [and we have covered that asking God to pray to God doesn't make sense, and suggested please bless] Ockle Pockle, Tocksin Woka, Billy matilly, Matilly Packilly" etc etc. He tells me the names are the names of the war dead from our church, and is very serious about doing this. I suggested he pray for "the soldiers from our church", or the like, but the list of made up names keeps coming, night after night.

I really don't like to "tread on his toes" regarding prayer, and just enjoy the fact that he wants to talk to God, but I wonder whether praying for a stream of gibberish is a wise choice for an almost 5 year old?

I'd let him go with it...maybe it's just a way for him to assign an identity to souls he cannot see. If you want, maybe you could help him end his prayer by saying something like, "Yes, please bless these and all the soldiers at our church."

I'd let him, as long as he is not being silly or mocking. God knows who is meant by his prayers!
