Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I called on Nov. first to Autom after we got dh's paycheck and they were sold out of small infant jesus figures!

I have tried for 3 years to find a baby jesus figure for my younger dc.

My oldest has one about 4 inches long. She collects sacrifice straw in her stocking all advent and then places it in a little basket for Jesus to be born into on Christmas morning. I think it cost about 5 bucks at a parish fair 4 years ago.

I made a darling little wooden one for ds last year but he was disapointed not to have a "real" nativity figure like big sister

Is there any where to find these?

The local Christian store does not carry baby jesus figures (how weird is that) and we have no local catolic store. The dollar store only has santas and snowmen.

Any ideas? Thanks Maggie

The people that own this are friends of ours, and they have always been very good about finding stuff that they don't carry in stock. So, you could always e-mail and ask since their specialty (though that have other sites with lovely statuary/rosaries/etc...) is nativities.

In addition to their being friends, I like buying from them because they don't sell stuff made in China.

Maggie,

I've been stewing your question for days now. I don't have a pat solution, but a couple of ideas.

I've always been struck by Helen McLoughlin's tradition that there was the family "large" manger where they did the straw, then each child had their individual manger. For Christmas each would find a baby Jesus in their manger, but every year someone would have a turn with the Hummel baby Jesus. See this for a summary of the tradition.

Growing up in my family my mother used a doll she had bought, I think used. It's a soft baby doll, small about 5 or 6". She made some soft clothes and that's the Baby Jesus. I love how the children give love to Baby Jesus, probably because he is a doll. My mom thought that it's better to have something the children can hold than a statue.

I've recreated that same manger and baby in our home. I also have one of those nice statues in the manger that I put under the Christmas tree.

But for the individual mangers, I only picture something small (perhaps because of the image of a Hummel being small) the removable Fontani baby Jesus would work in a handmade manger. I've also bought many parts of nativities and baby Jesus from eBay.

But last year I remember seeing in the catalogs a resin baby Jesus, about 4". I finally found it from Saccos. My mother used to shop in the store when we lived in Houston. I remember as a young girl thinking what a treasure place that was!

And here are those small plastic baby Jesus figures.

Not that I like the plastic or resin...but I do like to help the child if he's expressed what "feels" more like baby Jesus to him.

I thought about you yesterday when the Catholic Child catalog came in the mail. I found this Infant Jesus.

Years ago, when my youngest was a baby, a local Catholic Shop sold me a Fontini figure of Jesus in the manger. I think they might have taken it out of a set for me. We put the manger in the center of our Advent Wreath and place Jesus in after Midnight Mass.
