his family is discussing their recently deceased cat's body being taken to the animal shelter to be "tooken care of" and he says, "I hope it will be incorrupt."
(He's taking it pretty well, is dealing with it as I expected: lots of verbalizing of his thoughts and feelings, and drawing.)

Well, I don't know about 6 year olds yet, but in our house, you know it when you reprimand him and he says, "Mom, I'm heartily sorry for doing that..."

Oh what fun....in our house I was going through a pile of papers and found a clipboard - I jokingly said to my dh..
"Where did you steal this from?"
Our 6 year old responds "You know, Dad, we are Catholic".

Once when we were checking out at a store, ds swung our little compact umbrella at me by the cord - three times - and said, "Look Mama, I'm incensing you!"

A friend of mine's 5 year old daughter was corralling her friends by saying, "R, you need to stop leading others into temptation." It was hilarious.

DD asked how many kids a friend of mine had. When told one, she said, "Oh, that's sad."
(Ok, not exclusively Catholic, but seems to be a Catholic thing in the spheres in which we move.)

My 6yo was doing some Art work yesterday. When he came to show me the first picture I commented on his nice drawing of "Venus" but questioned him why he wrote "Venus of God" on the top. My very introspective kid said..."Well, God made Venus". I though, whew, I though he had heard of some Greek Mythology or something that I was going to have to explain. Well....then I got to the second page and it was of Saturn with "Saturn of God" on the top. I didn't say anything, but was a bit intrigued now. Until I got to the final page of a beautiful, accurate picture of the Sun, with...."The Sun of God" written on the top!!!!!

I thought of this thread this morning when my ds9 said something so funny. We were discussing the moon, and I asked who knew what luminous meant and he shot out 'the rosary'.

These stories have all been so sweet - I am really enjoying them. Wish I had something to add, but my memory fails me.

Well, my son is 7.
Lately, he's been very loud when it comes to being frustrated.
I took him aside the other morning as he and I were the only two awake and said something like,
"Well, remember how yesterday you were having a hard time using your words when you were frustrated? You know, today's a new day so how about we work on not yelling when we're mad...how does that sound?"
To which he replied, "Why? Is it Lent?"

My son is 4 - and we've had several deaths of acquaintances lately, and a couple of closer friends - he also knows that his two great-grandmothers will passing on soon as well... so we've discussed a LOT about choices and loving Jesus and where people go after they die.
Unconnected (but he connected it!), we've been discussing making good choices - good choices show our love for Jesus.
SO.... he's been telling his friends on the playground, when they do something *he* doesn't like, that they're not being nice to JESUS and they're not going to heaven unless they repent! (like a miniature St. John the Baptist or something!)
Then, he got frustrated with his CD player last night - and says, "This CD player is NOT going to heaven! It does not like Jesus because it's not being nice!"

When my 10 yo dd was about 4, she had just realized that the entire world was not made up of Catholics like us. She had found out that many of the families we knew in our neighborhood homeschooling group were Protestant.
We had spent the day in the country and stopped at a fast food restaurant in a strange town on our way home. She walked into the restaurant and approached a table and said (in a voice loud enough for most of the patrons to hear):
"Mom, is this a Catholic restaurant or a Protestant restaurant?"

Stop me if I've told you this one already...
Friday is family rosary night. We let the kids take turns announcing the mysteries. One particular week, it was William's (age 6) turn. He was only just learning how to read and was very keen.
"The First Joyful Mystery: The Menstruation"
I had to remove myself from the table. I spent two decades in the bathroom trying to quell the giggles. I'm sure that Our Blessed Mother got a kick out of it, too. She also had a Son...
I have NO idea to this day how he even knew that word. We do have a teen daughter (and me), but we do not discuss those things openly and when we do talk about them it's in hushed tones using euphemisms...
Goodness sakes.
I'm loving all these little funnies. Kids are awesome!
Blessings,

Only in a Catholic family...
9 y.o. dd's best friend called on Saturday and asked if dd could come with her to confession and then play. Who else has a confession-playdate?! It just struck me as so funny, but so lovely..."Mrs. D., can R. come with us to confession and then come over and play?" LOL!

This reminds me of when my 5 year old was 3 and got caught in the rose bushes out back. She cried out: "Help! I'm stuck in the Rosary Bushes!"

Our kitchen was in absolute disarray because of remodeling construction and we couldn't find the paper plates, so my 5 year old get's on his knees and asks St. Anthony to please help him find them! Two minutes later he finds them under a pile of books!
He couldn't stop talking about it and telling everyone how St. Anthony helped him!
