This isn't cookbook related, but perhaps you might be interested in reading some of the publications and mission behind the original publisher of Cooking for Christ. National Catholic Rural Life Conference's mission was to defend and minister to the rural Catholic. Many of these reflect the Liturgical Movement of the time, and also the post-war reconstruction. I love the talks on woman (although that author later went 180 degrees) and Emerson Hynes' works, as these can relate to us in whatever area we live.
I am not posting these to start a debate on which is more ideal, agrarian or urban. I just find them interesting to read, and have had some good reflections.
Manifesto on Rural Life, 1939 (back in print)
This is a very large book, but wonderful reading.

Jenn - this is an exciting reading list! If you could only see the backup in my reading basket! 
Still...I can't wait to dig in to some of these. What a wonderful group of treasures to dig into and reflect on.
I love those principles you quoted from "Seven Keys to a Christian Home". Reminds me of Thomas Howard's Splendor in the Ordinary which heavily influenced my domestic thoughts.
Thanks for starting this...very excited to start reading some of these!

I had read Thomas Howard's book years ago as "Hallowed Be This House" as the first edition from Ignatius, and I think it was before he revised it. I should pick that up and read the newer edition.
I wish Sophia wouldn't change the titles of older books when they reprint them. I can't tell you how many times I think it's a totally new book and it's not.
And Jennifer, most of these links are short, readable pamphlets, little nuggets to read, and easy to check off the "to do" list.
I wish my "to read" pile could be confined to a basket!

My basket spilleth over after Christmas. I really need to make time to read more!  It's one of my goals for this year as well! I'm terrible about reading 4-6 books at once.

I'm so glad Cay bumped this, Jenn because I wanted to come back and thank you for all of these suggestions but especially the Rural Life Prayer Book. I searched hi and lo and finally found a copy and ordered it for my brother for Christmas. It is so beautiful. I had a really hard time letting it go. It was THE perfect gift for him. Thanks again!
I'm still working my way through some of these books/pamphlets online and find them to have such a depth of wisdom. I'm really enjoying them. I've fallen in love with "Cooking For Christ" and "Around the Year with the Von Trapp Family" as well. My dd in particular loves "Around the Year..." so I've decided to start watching out for another copy for her hope chest.

Bumping this up because I just found that the prayerbook has been reprinted, and only $15.
I have not seen an actual copy, so I'm not sure if this has been revised, but I suspect not. The page count is the same and the look is exactly like the original.
You can read the prayers online above. I find this such a wonderful prayerbook, really touching on the seasons of the year and "down to earth" as it is for the rural life worker.
