Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I'm looking for suggestions for service organizations for my husband (or family) to join besides the KOC. Our local chapter is not particularly active and seems to mainly consist of retired layabouts drinking beer at parish events; okay, that's too harsh perhaps. They do grill burgers and have steak dinners and meetings, but my husband doesn't see much to entice him to join. He's a new Catholic and is looking for a group of guys to hang out with and get some more formation in the Faith.

The Knights of Lepanto would be ideal! We're old SCA'ers, but alas, we live in Washington state, not Connecticut.

We live in a small town, the next parish is 15-20 minutes away, but for a monthly meeting or so, it might be worth the trip.

Suggestions?

Presenting....
Lady Beatrix Annora de Perci and His Lordship Yeoman Alisdair MacEwan, GdS, OBR, OGGS, etc. of the Kingdom of An Tir. ("We stand together!" That dates me.)

I probably have the order of my hubby's awards wrong, but you get the gist. :)

We haven't played since our oldest was a toddler. Life was just too busy, SCA was just too not family friendly and our money and attention was needed elsewhere. However, we still have several crossbows and fencing equipment hanging in the garage. So I can see us visiting an event or two in time. Very carefully chosen events!

And you are, milady...?

Does your parish/diocese have Opis Dei? My husband has always enjoyed his involvement with this group.

Betsy, I wish. I am pretty sure Opus Dei is no longer active in this archdiocese at the request of the archbishop. Nothing bad happened, just some legal entanglements over liability or something. My oldest daughter went to a summer camp for girls sponsored by the OD group in Oregon. Nice group of people! But a little TOO far to drive. I think OD'ers in my area have to drive to either Vancouver BC, Canada or Oregon for meetings. But a good suggestion and one that would work if it were practical for us.

Lady Amalie von Luzern, and His Lordship Nicolas Huntley, (originally from Twin Moons, Atenveldt, now residing in Starkhafn, Caid.)

Well met!

(We actually still played quite a bit while our oldest was little, but we haven't in the last few years - and now that we moved, this Barony isn't nearly as family-friendly. And yet, my garage is also full of armor, and duct-taped poles. And books. And fabric. And garb...My husband has been playing since he was 16...)

We SCAd in Drachenwald, back in the mid-90s. And a weee bit after we moved to Atlantia (also mid-90s). But we missed alot of the enviroment and folks in Drachenwald, and it fell to the side. We still have friends who play...and we've got a few of our things scattered about...

Elena of Nottingham, and Lord Dennis the Ghillie, at your service, btw...

LOL
