... and thought all y'all with athletes would be interested! Here's a soccer star who is giving up a pro career to be a priest.
One quote particularly struck me:
Quote:
“I grew up as a Catholic. I was always involved in the church, went to Catholic schools,” Hilgenbrinck told the Associated Press. “It was when I got out on my own that my faith really became mine. I really embraced it. I didn't have to go to church any more, I was free to really believe what I wanted to believe.”

No athletes in this family, but I truly enjoyed the article! Thanks for sharing it, Mary.

I loved that quote, too, Michaela!
I did some googling and this story is getting quite a bit of coverage. What an amazing witness his story will be in the world of sports not accustomed to this.
In fact one article started like this:
MLS player retires to enter priesthood
This is not a headline that you see everyday. A Major League Soccer player has decided to retire and enter priesthood.
Here is that full article. It includes a video clip on You Tube of Chase from earlier when he was playing soccer in Chile. Note the very visible crucifix and holy medal he is wearing.

well, we are blessed to live/work for the Peoria Diocese and ds Thomas, almost 9 is a budding Club Soccer player. One of his coaches has a Brother in the Peoria Seminary already, and we are hoping to "adopt" Chase as well. We are THRILLED here!!!
