Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Is anybody combining grades for this series.
I am thinking about my 1st and 3rd grader.
How do you teach Faith and Life at home?

Thanks

Simona

I think the first thing you need to consider is sacrament prep at those ages.

In the F&L series, grade 2 is the level at which the child is prepared for First Penance and First Holy Communion.

Have your children made their sacraments? If not, maybe they both could do grade 2 together. If the older one has already made his sacraments, then the material may be redundant for him.

I would look here and here -- These are scopes and sequences for Grade 1 and Grade 3 Faith and Life, and there are links to more detailed lists of topics.

Then go here and here. These are nice color-coded charts giving topics and resource ideas for 1st and 3rd grade.

Find common topics -- the series "spirals", repeating the same topics year after year with deeper emphasis based on age level. So there should be lots of common ground. As Allegiance Mom said, a first grader can start to prepare for FHC, while a 3rd grader who has received the sacrament could probably use some review on the sacramental prep he received in the past.

I haven't ever combined 1st and 3rd grade but I did once combine 5th and 8th grade by correlating topics.
